Housing, a subsidiary of Ratan Tata owned Tata group, is all set to offer flats in the comfortable price range between Rs 3.9 lakh and Rs 6.7 lakh after introducing ambitious small car 'Nano' in the market.

The value home under brand name ‘Shubh Griha’ would include one bedroom-kitchen flats located in Mumbai suburb Boisar, in Thane district while the scheme would be further expanded in the tier II and III cities of India. The flats would be available in three sizes — 283 sq ft, 360 sq ft and 465 sq ft.

The move would help to increase demand in the housing sector, the worst hit segment due to slump in reality sector under the impact of global slowdown. Other players including Puravankara, Omaxe and Housing Development & Infrastructure and Bangalore based CSC Constructions have also shown interest in the affordable housing segment, hoping good response from the middle and low-income groups.

Tata Housing, MD Brotin Banerjee, said, "The opportunity lies at the bottom of the pyramid as there is a huge shortage at this end of the market. Our study shows that around 48% of them are currently staying in rented accommodation."

Mr. Banerjee informed that the company would launch Shubh Griha in Bangalore and Delhi over the next few months and enter cities like Nashik and Ludhiana.
