Different regions of Vietnam have different curse words and different style of cursing. For example, Southern Vietnamese would just curse you straight out with commonly used prophane phrases, but Northern Vietnamese often don't curse you straight out but they will say subtly offensive things. When Northern Vietnamese do curse you straight out, they don't use common profane phrases but they bring your parents, your grandparents, your lineage, your family out to curse (For example, "9 generations of your family ate $hits of pigs on the farm of my family so when they gave birth to you, your brain is full of $hit"). Well, this is common in Vietnam actually, bringing one's family or ancestors out to curse is considered to be very offensive to Vietnamese, and thus it's pretty common especially in Northern Vietnam.

Some common curse phrases are
- Địt mẹ mày (Northern Vietnam): Fuk your mother
- Đụ má mày (Southern Vietnam): Fuk your mother
- Thằng chó đẻ: literally "boy born from a dog". This is meant to curse the mother of that person by saying she's a dog. But you can think of it as equivalent to "son of b!tch"
The word "thằng" above can be replaced with "đồ" or "con". Đồ is unisex. Con is if you want to curse a girl. Thằng is if you want to curse a guy.

Other phrases contain obscene words for genital parts of human. I don't know whether I should tell you. embarassedlaugh.gif

But trust me, cursing is like an art in Vietnam, especially in Northern Vietnam. It depends largely on the creativity of the curser. Not many people would just use simple curse phrases like địt mẹ mày, đụ má mày...on you. It's boring. Well Southern Vietnamese gangsters use common curse phrases often though because that's all they can think of when they get into a fight. embarassedlaugh.gif

I hv no intentions of using the curse words on vietnamese folks, dude. Take a chill pill, man.

I just wanna know how different Vietnamese curses are from say American or Cantonese curses.. so far, I can see the Cantonese curses are more offensive... cuz they will curse about ur mother's private parts all the time..

Cậu đúng là người thô lỗ. I've been here for a long time and I know tangawizi is a nice girl, she wouldn't have any bad intention so that's why i tell her. Go read my posts in the past, everyone knows I always refuse to teach Vietnamese curse words to people with bad intentions.

It's true Cantonese use your mother's private part to curse more than Vietnamese, but Vietnamese do that a lot too. embarassedlaugh.gif I just don't tell because I think its profanity level is way out of reach.

@OlDirtyBastard: Any uneducated and rude people can say that, like some American can say "I'm so tired because I have to drive 500 mother-fu-king miles", but it's just the way they talk, they don't really mean it as an offense to any specific person. I think we're talking about cursing as a mean to offend people.

Yes, in the Southern way. But most of the time they just say it out of a habit, not because they want to offend anybody.
