Do Khmer people use "chopsticks"? Yes, they do. What do they use the chopsticks for? Evidence shows that the Khmer seem to use chopsticks exclusively to eat their noodles. embarassedlaugh.gif Do Khmer have their word for the chopsticks? Yes, they do. Chopsticks in Khmer are called "chongkeh" Do Khmer have different types of chopsticks? Yes. Some chopsticks are big and are used as fasteners as bolts or in stitching up the banana tree products in the Buddhist rituals. Did the Khmer invent "chopsticks"? There is no research up to date, but there are stone carvings on the Angkor Wat galleries showing people in the Khmer Empire eating noodles with chopsticks. When did the Khmer started using chopsticks to eat their noodles? Perhaps as early as the third century A.D because according to the legend of Thon Chey while he was in China he had served the Chinese Emperor the Khmer Nom Banchok (Khmer noodles) to be eating with chopsticks already. When Thon Chey returned to Cambodia, he brought along with him thousands of Chinese immigrants who entered Cambodia in the Third Century AD. So... embarassedlaugh.gif

Some Khmer members have a common disorder that's been diagnosed as "Khmer Rudeness, Arrogance, and Pride".

Here are the symptoms:

If anything in Asia, especially in SEA, exists in Khmer culture, then Khmers were the inventors and they had influenced neighboring cultures. Some Khmer members who exhibit KRAP tend to discredit other cultures because they refuse to admit that they had been influenced by others with the exception of Indians who are like gods and idols to them.

Hmmm Laos and Thailand have chopsticks....must be another "Khmer" influence?...just like "Buddhism" and "rice noodles"?

So in conclusion, chopsticks were invented by Khmers just like Buddhism. The Chinese and every Asian person should thank Khmers like Preahvihear from now on for educating us as to the chopsticks' true origins.

Don't argue with a Khmer member who has KRAP. He's likely to attack just like an animal with rabies.

So it's official now...chopsticks were invented by Khmers. The Chinese should stop claiming ownership, right Preahvihear?. icon_twisted.gif

Not according to Preahvihear. He's trying to suggest that chopsticks were introduced to the Chinese by a Khmer man. biggthumpup.gif

I thought you were Khmer?

Anyway, it's definitely a good invention, but "the greatest invention"? Hmmm that's questionable.

Thanks to all my Khmer contributors for providing the answer needed. For the records, I have never ever claimed that the Khmer originated the eating utensils called chopsticks. No I have never said that. So those foreigners better stop reading tooooooooooooo much into my words. I just said that the Khmer also used a type of "chopstick" or chongkeh in Khmer as fasteners. If you don't believe me then what do the Khmer call the bambo made stick used to hold the banana tree truck together? That is right. They call it as "chongkeh". Then when they see the "Chinese" eating utensils called chopsticks, they also call them as "chongkeh". I am quite aware that there were Chinese at Angkor.

Shut up stupid Hmong, who is a Pathet communist Laotian=Kaysone worshipping culprit.
Why don't you go back to Laos and visit the Long Cheng Forbidden Zone where the Hmong are getting killed.
I hope the Pathet Laotians crucified you onto two big "TU" CHOPSTICKS.

Dear beloved Preahvihear,
Where have you been? I missed you in Long Beach. Since you are talking about the jong-gus, I like to talk about it with you. At the end of our conversations, i'll stick each one of it into each one of your eyes. You are one interesting troll. The troll that reported me to Ben. You made me laugh. I am on to you. You have to be lucky all the time to keep your piece and all I have to get is lucky once to take you to pieces.
