I'm from CA. I was on a road trip to Louisiana and was stopping in Texas during New Year. Just got back.

Ohhhhh, I thought you were having New Years going wrangling and kicking up your spurs with them cowboys in Texas.

So uhhhhh, have fun in Cajun country? I heard that you can catch quite a few of them crawdads over there by just sticking your hand down in the mud in the swamp. Them crawdads' good eatin'.

Yeah, They tasted like shrimp to me. Alligator was good too!
Great trip, my only complaint was everything was expensive.

They are a little chewier like tiny lobsters to me. Flavor is a little spicier than shrimp. Yeah, the food is a little expensive if you go to a restaurant, $5-10/pound of crawfish, 5-10 pounds/person. And you throw away like 75% of the crawfish itself, shell, head, claws. If you could cook it yourself it would be hella alot cheaper, less than $1/pound at peak season. Try a little crawfish hoagie, it's extra good.

Alligator would be even more expensive than steak or fish I could imagine. A friend or mine from East Texas ran over an alligator driving in the back country somewhere and quickly ran out and threw it in the back of his truck. He made his own brand of 'Road Kill Cafe' out of it. He even brought over some of his stewed alligator skin with curry sauce for me to try out. If you could imagine chewing on a piece of tire flavored to perfection then it is for you. I guess with the excessive consumption of Guinness beer anything would taste fine.

Come to think of it, that bastard didn't even gave me the tail!

^ Almost all my dinners were in the $20~$30 price range not including drinks and side orders!

An order of fried alligator nuggets( about the size of medium fries at MacDonald ) cost $18.99 eek.gif

But it was a great state to visit. I would definitely go their again.
