Korea, where kegogi (cooked dog) is a delicacy and vendors come out at night to sell "dog food" and eat it openly. The Philippine tradition of eating dogs could be pinpointed at around the 70's (because of marshal law?) maybe due to poverty.
So why, is it still taboo to talk about eating dogs in some part of the country and even overseas? I see nothing wrong with it (I've eaten it). This post has been edited by azrach187: Dec 15 2006, 12:14 AM |

because koreans have a culture that will counteract savage perception of dog eater, but filipine doent have a culture to counter act savage perception... because filipine culture is higly dependent on spanish culture as a civilizing savlation.....

I think it's because Filipinos are altruistic, unlike other Asians. We care too much about what others would think.
One reason is westerners find it icky when dogs and cats are eaten. Watch how some condemn the Koreans for eating dogs and cats. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISyfQodfl0o |

Being an Ilocano, we eat things that might be disgusting to outsiders that I could consider a mark of who I am, giving no care what people think. Dinuguan, sawa, bayawak, palaka, etc. are delicacies I very much enjoy when I'm home in the province. |

It's animal meat, just like beef, pork and chicken. It's just a matter of preference I guess. I don't know why some westerners would go ape sh!t about it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/embarassedlaugh.gif)

i actually dotn see any deff between the koreans and filipinos when it comes to dog eating. Some parts of the Phil are open to dog eating while others arent same with koreans. and Koreans arent exactly advertising to everyone in the world that they eat dogs. i got korean friends who leave the dog eating part as part of Korean cuisine.

I'm from baguio in the Philippines. i remember my uncle coming home w/ dog meat one night.. actually had a taste. no difference. just the ethnic/moral/cultural issues of peoples prespective that is.
i was about 8-9 years old then. even though meat is meat i'd rather stick to things that i don't have as pets at home. if we went "Survival" about this issue then i don't think nebody would be complaining. it isn't really the issue then it seems wrong. usually when u kill to eat an animal.. u kill cook n eat it.. torturing n all that $hit just isn't right. most of the time it's only taboo because other societies do not understand the culture. (though that korea thing they could atleast just kill the damn thing.. sadistic) |

And don't they kill hundreds of dogs in the American pounds as well? I still wouldn't eat a dog, but it's not as if Americans don't slaughter these animals either.

sigh.... a lot of koreans dont eat dogs. since korea itself is becoming more westernized, the young generation views the practice as barbaric and uncivilized. many animal rights groups have protested and the situation is changing (thank god). eat dog openly? vendors? overexaggerated.
on the other hand, there is nothing really wrong with eating dogs. its an animal, white people need to look at themselves before pointing fingers. |

who gives a $hit about eating dog meat? a dog is an animal, animals are meant to be eaten or worn, French people eat ostriches and horses, Americans eat chickens and cows and pigs. the dogs eaten anyways are raised to be eaten it's not like they are people's pets and then they just kill them and cook them, PETA are a bunch of fags.
