Not only print media, but the catwalks too. Girls who are size 0 have a BMI below 18 which is classified as underweight and deemed so by the WHO. So should these girls be allowed to parade themselves around?

IMO it's pretty nasty....the more i see them, the more I know I would never be retarded enough about my weight to go down to that freak size.

American Size 0 = UK Size 4

Bust = 31.5 inches

Waist Size = 23 inches

Hip Size = 34 inches

Size 0 celebs:

Lily Cole (the next Kate Moss apparently) is only 18, she's 5'10 and only 8 stone (112lbs) is that too skinny for someone at her age and for someone in the industry? Obviously at 18 she's still got some filling out and growing to do. Her BMI is approximately 16.1

Recently banned from the catwalk in Madrid Fashion Week 2006, do size 0 celebs have a place in the media?

Sexy? Hot? Normal looking? Healthy?

It should depend on height. Size 0 on someone who is under 5'5" is not too skinny at all. I usually wear that size but since I'm fairly short I don't look emaciated like that model in the first picture.

I doubt Nicole Richie is a 0. She's gotta be like a 00000. embarassedlaugh.gif She probably gets her clothes tailored.

I don't think most models are a size 0 either, most of them are like a 2 from what I've heard. And no, I don't think they should be banned because people think they're disgusting. Their job is to be walking clothes hangers. They're not trying to tell people to emulate them. The stuff they wear on the catwalk isn't even what is actually sold to the public.

The U.S. population must consist of a lot of tall 5-year-olds then. embarassedlaugh.gif

If she is in the States, where the hell does she buy her clothes? It's hard enough finding 0's and XS.

I dont think they should be banned.

I feel that bigger models should be encouraged, having more diversity in shapes may make other models (and women) feel that beauty is not dependant on size... or lack of and dieting is healthy but there is a point when it is taken too far and effects your health.

I wonder how much those women eat....

I thought the world was going fatter not smaller?
And those skeletons better get some meat.

Btw, whos the girl in the top picture? Her face is so damn sexy. The girl Lily cole is ugly, the next kate moss my @$$. I swear every white small model is the next kate moss and every black girl with big @$$ booty is the next tyra banks. Where is the next asian superstar? THERE AINT ONE, and we are normally skinny and flat chested so we are the typical model bodies.

I don't know about all size 0's, but I'm in favor of banning Nicole Richie from all forms of media -- and that goes for her on-again, off-again friend, too.

It's like promoting negative health. If you can censor smoking, you might as well censor this.

you get sexier and sexier by the minute, big sis icon_smile.gif

yeh i agree. i find girls who are petite and are size 0 dont look emaciated at all. its just those runway models who have to be a certain height that makes them look emaciated.

im a guy and im super short too and i prefer something like what starry described, simply because it'll look ridiculous if I go out with someone taller and fatter than me.

I don't see what's so great about uber thin models. Most women aren't that thin, and most clothes look better on healthy women.

i think uber-thin bodies are believed to exhibit the clothes on them more effectively but I don't really get it either. I like it when girls dress nice and wear stuff that actually fits their bodies quite nicely.

Well, the clothes they show on the catwalk aren't really for the general population. They're like a cover of a book that shows off the designer's creativity. I mean, would anyone really wear something like this to school? embarassedlaugh.gif

EDIT:

I didn't notice the bit about print media before. Yeah, it would be great if they could use models that better reflect the general population in stuff like catalogs (although the models would still have to be pretty tall so that they can display the clothes to optimum effect). But if that happened then sales might go down. People look at the pretty, thin models and buy luxury items in the hopes that they will become like them. If they believed that Prada is meant for the girl next door, would they really want to spend as much money on it?

My friend works in fashion, she had it right when she said that all models are super freaks. She said when they're all in a room together you can't take your eyes off of them because they're so alien.

Despite the fact that she's 5"10 herself and like a size 6...not quite size 0 but she looks hella skinny next to me. embarassedlaugh.gif
