If you've seen this film, what do you think it means? Is it merely Lynch's commentary on Hollywood? What's really going on?

QUOTE (holamon @ Jul 2 2004, 04:28 AM) Saw it, but don't like it ---boring i think this fim is boring to people who don't watch films to think, but rather watch them to be purely entertained. david lynch is known to make films that are complex and require some thought. starry - i'm not sure if i would say that it's a commentary on Hollywood, but i can definitely see how some could think this way (perhaps betty was so disillusioned w/ the whole hollywood scene she thought she was rita). there are countless numbers of hypothesis on what exactly the ending meant, many of which discount the "it was all only a dream" theory. here's an interesting link: http://www.tonystuff.co.uk/mdrive-spoilers.htm |

I've never seen a David Lynch film with a strong message. What I mean is, his stuff makes sense in a dream-logic sort of way. Studied film students would probably disagree with me, but that's why I never talk about movies with them. ^_^
I think the Hollywood setting is jsut a really useful setting for his explorations into whats real, whats preconceived, and how much the viewers and characters want to buy into illusion. Plus, it totally the most coherent movie Lynch has made in ages |

QUOTE (sniff @ Jul 2 2004, 09:10 PM) Thanks for the link! I see that there are a lot of interpretations but none seem to be conclusive. I guess Lynch figured that's how to get his film talked about...? I wonder if he ever explained it himself... QUOTE Plus, it totally the most coherent movie Lynch has made in ages Seriously, anyone who tried to make sense of Lost Highway is just a glutton for punishment. |
