What happen to that other thread. Why was it closed?
Anyways, I've several stories I heard from my friends and family on cases of cannibalism or were cannibalism related. The first story is about my friend Lan. Well sometimes after the war her family decided to escape Vietnam. Luckily for them, the father worked for a man with a motor boat so the owner let Lan's family on board for free. Usually you would have to pay a substantial amount of gold to go. After a while their engine died and they started running out of food and water. Sometime after that the situation got worst and the crew leader brought up the subject of cannibalism and ask my friend's dad if they could eat his daughter when she died because she was already sick and might die soon. The father remained silent, but her mother refused right away. She said that if her daughter died they were gonna throw the body overboard, there would be no eating. As for Lan, she was lucky enough to stay alive a few more day when a English merchant ship came and picked them up. Whew, that was a close one, the father told me that those people were dead serious about eating his daughter if she had died. The second story I heard about was about this guy. It was a similar situation, their engine was dead, broken or out of gas and they had ran out of food. After a week people were starving and getting weak. This was when the people on the boat said this guy started to to get real scared. He started thinking people were plotting to eat him, since the people did mentioned cannibalism. He was so scared of being eaten and that they were gonna kill him for food. Out of sheer fright he jumped out the boat many times attempting to kill himself (or swim away?). The first few times he tried, his friend was able to rescue him, but on the last try his friend couldn't save him and he drowned. There are many stories like these on the high seas, especially the ones about the pirates. Personally I think the stories about the victims of piracy are far worst then most of these stories about cannibalism. I think in most of these cases of cannibalism, the people ate only persons that just died. The evil acts of piracy were just cruel and heartless. Anybody got stories about pirates and Vietnamese and Hoa boat people? This post has been edited by Q(^.^Q) Loc85: May 17 2007, 06:34 PM |

The other thread probably got closed because of a few racist remarks.

So there are a lot of cannibals in ba que towns? If they're willing to eat people then there's nothing else they wouldn't do. No wonder people are afraid of protesters. A while ago, I heard a story about how many people who wanted to do businesses with VN were threatened with being eatenen by hard core ba ques. Maybe the thread maker might have been a cannibal because he has a very foul temper. We should start calling Loc85 Hannibal Hector

the subject was also brought up in my dads boat when the engine died and the boat drifted for about 2 weeks. actually the guy that was dying told everyone they could eat him if that meant staying alive a couple more days to be rescued. no point in going all that way for nothing. luckily they came ashore a day later. now they laugh about that day when they are drinking with him.

Dumb story, most people left as boat people were connected to fishing life style. It was not that they were somewhere with no alternative sources of food. Plenty of food in the high seas jut a matter of catching it and it would be the first thing they tried.
It takes about 2-3 days without water to start hallucinating. The guy who thought they were going to eat him would likely be hallucinating. People take much longer to died of starvation. |

Have you ever tried catching a fish in the sea with your hands? |

People go to high seas knew how to fish and didn't bring anything? All you need is some string, some home made hook. Plenty of seaweed too. Try anything before you use your hands to catch fish. Remember that most of Viets are farm people; they are very resourceful. They know how to gather food, catch fish. Plenty of food in the high seas. Your hands are more useful if you use your brain. If any boat had a mechanic (or an an engineer with mechanical ability) to repair the engine, then that boat was goddamn lucky. This post has been edited by blacklight: May 18 2007, 04:18 PM |

Given that the historical fact that many boat people starved or were weakened by starvation, I do find your second guessing annoying. This post has been edited by blacklight: May 19 2007, 04:46 PM |
