Why do you barely (if ever) see them in Chinese, Japanese, or other Asian cuisines? Tomatoes are friggin' awesome, they're really missing out.

Tomatoes are friggin' awesome, they're really missing out. tomatoes originate from the americas. until the discovery of the 'new world' by europeans, european cuisine didn't have tomatoes either. can you imagine italian food without pasta from china nor tomatoes from the americans? UGH! GROSS. This post has been edited by ham_let: Jul 14 2007, 01:14 AM |

QUOTE(ham_let @ Jul 14 2007, 02:12 AM) tomatoes originate from the americas. I know. Chili peppers originated in the Americas too, yet they're abundant in Asian food. So why not tomatoes too? This post has been edited by helo4: Jul 14 2007, 01:45 AM |

Because, even though tomatoes aren't used nearly enough in East Asian cuisines, Southeast Asians use them a lot, especially with hot chile peppers! For example, the invention Tum mak huong by Lao people, we use cherry tomatoes a lot for this dish. Jail mak lain (spicy roasted tomato sauce), Yum salat, among other things too. |

I hate tomatoes. I only like it as a sauce or as ketchup or sun dried tomatoes soaked in olive oil.
