Have you notice that in recent years, somehow Indonesian nationalistic sentiments has grew somewhat stronger.
In all aspect.
In music for example, the song "Bendera" from Cokelat is potray young Indonesian pride for our country.

This is the making of Bendera clips by Indonesian Idol

Bendera, Indonesian Idol

And although I hate cigarette, I adore the "Rumahku Indonesiaku" Gudang Garam Independence Ad.
It's really beautiful, dignified, and elegant....

Check this out....:

Rumahku Indonesiaku

I think the woman potray Ibu Pertiwi, Indonesian Motherland (Goddess of Earth) personify as a beautiful lady, mother of Indonesians.
The images of woman and children gave peaceful feelin.
Awesome huh, I'm soo touched with solemn pride and joy and overwhelmingly love of Indonesia.

Happy Independence Day (17 August 2007) Indonesia!

Remember those who'd worked very hard for this independence, including these two leaders who proclaimed our independence:

Sukarno

and

Hatta

Editorial from the Jakarta Post

QUOTE
Across the golden bridge - Selamat Hari Raya Indonesia!
Friday, August 17. 2007

Merdeka, the Indonesian word for "independence", can carry many meanings. But Sukarno, Indonesia's founding father, defined it in one way: "political independence, which is essentially a bridge, a golden bridge." In his famous June 1, 1945 Birth of Pancasila speech in which he laid down the foundations of an emerging free Indonesia, he said: ".. once we are on the other side of the bridge, we shall perfect our society." Weeks later, on Aug. 17, Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta proclaimed Indonesia's independence, bringing the collection of islands then known as the Dutch East Indies to the other side of that golden bridge.

Fast forward 62 years, we are still not sure what exactly lies here now that we are on the other side. We know what it was promised to be. A "just and prosperous society" was what Sukarno and Hatta had envisioned for Indonesia on proclamation day.

Today, as we mark our anniversary of independence yet again, Indonesia is still neither a just, nor a prosperous nation. Our society is far from perfect.

Thanks to our founding fathers, we do indeed have independence. We have the right to determine our own fate and to manage our own affairs. With all our shortcomings and limitations, we would not trade our independence -- which we achieved through blood, sweat and tears -- for anything.
Editorial Jakarta Post

Sukarno was right to hastily declare Indonesia's independence in 1945, even with minimal preparation. In that speech, he was very critical of his peers who insisted on the most meticulous preparations before accepting independence, either from the returning Dutch colonial government or from the occupying Japanese military.

Still, we have not yet made the most of our independence through all these years. If anything, we get a sense that we have squandered or wasted so much of our time bickering among ourselves. Although Indonesia was one of the first nations in this part of the world to gain independence from European colonialism, we are trailing others today on the question of nation building.

Bad leadership and poor management have been the prime causes of our failure to build Indonesia out of its collection of diverse nations. Sukarno, at the end of his rule, was as culpable as Soeharto in the dying days of his regime for driving the nation to the brink of collapse and bankruptcy.

It has not been a total loss for Indonesia.

The very fact that we remain united as one nation, in spite of many trials and tribulations, is credit to the people of this archipelago who still believe that not only have we been historically bound together (by centuries of Dutch colonization), but that our future, that is our fate and fortune, are also tied together, for better or for worse.

We have expended a lot of time and resources trying to forge this unity, dealing with bloody armed insurgencies in many corners of the country. There were times when our leaders' fixation with uniting the nation meant they resorted to the use of violence and coercion, along the way suppressing freedom, creativity and initiative.

Today, those days are over.

Since 1998, we have started afresh with a new national consensus of building Indonesia, and therefore achieving the lofty goals of a just and prosperous nation, through the principles of democracy, human rights, respect for individual freedom and upholding the rule of law.

Let's look at those years between 1945 and 1998 as years of learning, of experimenting with different systems of governing a country as huge, as diverse and as complex as Indonesia. Let's just accept that, given our circumstances, we needed more time than most other countries to learn the ropes of nation building.

As we mark our independence anniversary, we have the right to celebrate and to rejoice at the freedom that we have enjoyed all these years. It's what out our founding fathers, who gave their lives for this freedom, would want us to do.

But let's also reflect on the shortcomings and failings of Indonesia as an independent nation. This is a good time for all social forces to renew their commitment to take this nation closer to the dream of justice and prosperity.

Surely, after 62 years, we should be moving further away from the golden bridge through which Sukarno had led us to cross.
