I wouldn't go by those statistics alone. The thing is that Koreans differ in the way Westerners have surgery in that the people who get it done in Korea are YOUNG people and they have EYE SURGERY. People in the west get their boobs done or get facelifts when they get older. Koreans are different because they get eye surgery at a young age (parents giving them surgery as graduation gifts) which alters their whole appearance radically.
Changing your eyes change your whole look so much. The eyes are the windows of your soul as they say - and people who've had the surgery look like they have souls of bugs or weird freakish aliens. Westerners who get pumped up lips do not look that different and getting a boob job does not change the look of your face. When you live in a Western country you do not notice that people have had plastic surgery that much relative to the stats - people in their forties may have had their skin tightened or wrinkles lasered but in Korea the people look fundamentally different - they are a new race of people - people who are staring all the time because they have had their eyes done and I'm talking about young people mostly (this plastic surgery craze is a young people's phenomenon). The Miss Korea thread - people who enter in this comp are ordinary people, not celebrities. Judging from this lineup of contestants (ordinary people) - I would say 80% have had their eyes done. You never find this sort of thing in the West - yes they may have had their boobs done or their noses altered but they don't look much different to before - they still look Caucasian. Asians who fix their eyes look very different to before. I find plastic surgery on eyes (especially on young people who were goodlooking mostly before the surgery because they are young) to be a sad craze in Korea - it does reflect the 'pretensiousness and fakeness' (as someone called it) of the Korean culture. The Korean men are still very goodlooking many of them, because they don't do the surgery as much as the women. But young goodlooking women in Korea who haven't had their eyes fixed are becoming much harder to find. Why do I have to watch Korean dramas? Korean dramas are as representative of Korean people as much as the people that are seen in sites like this, maybe even less so as they are all famous people and actors. There are plenty of pics of ordinary Koreans here (and similar sites all over the net) as well as celebrities. The thing that struck me is how so many girls have staring unnatural eyes - I haven't honestly seen this in other non-Asian sites. This post has been edited by miss_yume: Aug 18 2004, 04:42 PM |

You go to statistics when someone says something along the lines of "we get the most plastic surgeries". Ugh...people in america who are getting boob jobs/chin/nose/lip/butt are not "old" people. They're very much in their 20's and 30's and some in there mid teens. Other procedures like the facelift (laser or chemical) is usually for the older crowd. Plus the average age is getting lower and lower every year. You can believe what you want, some people it makes them look ugly and some people it makes them look better. It's up to that person to figure out what they want to do. They don't give you a "bug" eye from the surgery so I dunno where you're getting that from. Told you to watch korean dramas so that you can see what eyelid surgery looks like on a person but I guess you don't watch em. You should try renting some korean game shows...most likely you'll find those funny. Oh yea....I'm guessing everyone in America gets plastic surgery now and no one can possibly look like celebs w/o them here either. ^^We're talking about koreans in korea....not america. www.newtruetalent.org go watch some American korean girls lol. The blind date spoof has a nice korean girl who has had plastic surgery if you wanna see |

Not as many koreans in america get surgery like koreans in korea. please don't assume things. the only surgeries i have ever heard of from people i know here has been eyelid surgery, which they went to korea to do. it's not that common. I have never even thought about plastic surgery for ANYTHING, and yes, i have single eyelids. boo. I've heard alot of Korean Americans get surgery when they visit Korea. Someone said on this thread or a similar one that their friend got it when they went there. Other people have said the same thing - I guess that would make sense - if you wanted double eyelid surgery you would go where the surgeons have alot of experience doing that - Korea for example. There is a thread here where somebody asks who are good plastic surgeons in Korea. As I have said Korea is unusual in that it's mostly young people who have surgery, not older people who are worried about their looks. I've heard that some Korean parents push their kids to have surgery and they have surgery as graduation gifts and so on. I think that's macabre and not far removed from child abuse.
I don't know that about Korean dramas - somebody else brought that up and said I should watch more Korean dramas or something to see what Korean people looked like. ???? Korean people getting the double lid to look western doesn't work anyhow. Not many westerners have eyes that look like Korean eyes post-surgery. Check out the Miss Korea thread and see what I mean about the bug eyes. Some of those people look like they are permanently startled. |

I guess it's all just a matter of opinion. Yeah it's true quite a few Korean girls get surgery on eyes. One of my best friends had it done and she looks beautiful and not like a bug at all but I do see what Miss Yumi is saying though about the bug eye thing. It didn't happen to my friend but it does happen, and quite often. One girl we know locally had it done and she does look like someone shoved a pole up her @$$ and she's permanently startled. Her's was pretty F-ed up though. I myself don't have creased eyes and my parents were strongly against me ever changing that. Anyway whatever floats your boat I guess. If it makes you feel better, or in your own opinion look better than you should do it but one definately shouldn't be
pushed to do it or not do it. |

This actress, Han Chae Young, is really striking - I love her eyes - they are so slanted, very Asian eyes. I watched her in "Endless Love" and I think she is really beautiful. She looks so flawless - a classic beauty. (I also loved her b!tchy character, slapping people, and screaming at them - she was great - it was a change from the love interest of Won Bin's character - this girl I didn't like at all - very insipid.) This is not a good pic of her - I couldn't find many pics but ....

Look, if you, kpjoon, want to talk about me so much, how long my posts are, whether I bring up the past or what, or if I have opinions (like any other normal human being) and you find that fact strange, then I have started a thread exactly so you and others like you who want to turn it into a thread about me can make your comments there instead of making the comments here where it is OFF-TOPIC. |

The general problem with Asian eye surgery is that they dont look natural at all. Even the Caucasians I kniow DO NOT HAVE ROUND EYES like a fu-king anime drawing. I think its sad...all sad.
As for AF as a representation of Asians...well all I can say is that I HOPE NOT!!! |

I have the exact opposite point of view. I puke when I look at them for more than 3 seconds. |

A lot of White peoples' eyes are squinty or kind of slanty yet they don't particularly look Asian. |

Her statistics about the differences between america and korea are so wrong. There are so many young people in America getting it while she points to only "old" ones who get it. Also the miss korea thread most of the girls didn't even have eyelid surgery. We stopped paying attention to her ranting after her 10th post? Her debate are purely "opinionated" with almost no facts.
