Its been such a great while since I have sat through an entire Thai Drama series. These days that is far from the case. I have noticed that the quality and plot in the Thai dramas that have been coming out lately are so much better than they were before.
Plot > Before, which was not that long ago the male lead character would stereotypically rape the lead female character and they all end up happy by the ending episode. As opposed to now, the male character is very sincere and dreamly like. Most often he is that down-to-earth, prince charming character who comes to sweep the main female character off her feet. As fiction as it gets, it is still better than he being an @$$hole. Quality > There is less focus on centralistic Bangkok. Many series show different regions of Thailand and do well to display and promote their uniqueness. It is also a bit more realistic script - people actually act and say things that normal people would actually do. So those of you who have ditched Thai series lately, I highly recommend you to watch and enjoy them. (I would put this thread in Cambodia Chat but this is more Thai-related than anything.) |

Some Thai dramas still have that rape scene, I saw it few days ago. So many dramas broadcasted in Thai television nowadays, some are good and some are awful. I have to choose what to watch carefully. |

I guess that may be the reason why so few Thai Dramas are actually dubbed in Khmer and shipped to overseas Cambodians. Mayura Channel 3 Company never fails to entertain me. There was a nice story with the title pich knong dey (translated to English) A Diamond Among Dirt I saw the other day. Oh yeah I also forgot to mention the dubbing qualities are still crap compared to how smoothly Khmer-dubbed Chinese films sounds. |

It's acceptable because the story tell us from the beginning that the lead actress fell in love with the lead actor before she got raped by him. So that rape scene makes the love between them eventually complete. But anyway, I think it's so ridiculous for this scene to appear in many Thai lakorns!!! |

QUOTE(Goombaking209 @ Nov 2 2007, 01:25 PM) ^ I thought you guys understand it already? Lao people can easily understand words in the Thai vocabulary that are either of Lao origin or Pali/Sanskrit origin. If Thai people speak fast, it's hard for me to understand what they're saying because I'm not used to their KR, R, and CH sounds. When they speak it slowly, then it's more easily understood. Additionally, it's probably easier for an older Lao person to understand Thai because modern Lao people no longer use the R sound, whereas the older generation did use the R consonant.
