Hi everyone,
I'm an American college student who is hoping to take a year off after I graduate to teach English in China before I return to attend medical school in the US. However, it is important for me to spend this gap year also doing health-related activities, such as volunteering/working in a hospital, shadowing doctors, working for a health education program (e.g for HIV/AIDS), etc. Since I've never been to China before, I'm not sure how possible it would be for me to obtain these experiences, especially since my fluency in Mandarin is shaky. While I know that you can certainly find these sorts of things to do in the US, my question is whether or not it's as accessible in China. Thanks for any advice! |

Actually, yeah, but you might need some connections. My friend was able to mess around with a People's Liberation Army health care unit, where he saw a ton of nasty crap. Juicy stuff.
However, his dad is a former colonel in the PLA. |

Thanks for any advice! you might look into going to rural areas... like eastern china, xinjiang. those parts... most city based areas are aware of HIV and other std's and have plenty of health awareness advertising. |
