Get a custom firmware.
Get a ps1 rom/s
Get popstation
Convert ps1 rom via popstation
Get into usb mode
copy paste the data you just made with popstation and go into GAME folder and you're done.

If you have an official Sony firmware? Don't bother trying.

Is any custom firmware good?

I have custom firmware M33-4 3.71, I found a post on craiglist electronic in our place that says it will unbrink/update PSPs. He is just a 10 year old kid. Since mine was working, I only paid $10, it went from Sony official firmware 3.72 to M33-4 3.71. He said he will also install emulators. I said no, because all I do with my PSP is dump UMD ISO image (M33 has its own dumper) to my PC. Then if I wanna play it, I would copy it back to the MS, it even load faster and uses less battery (less noise too). I now have 20 games, all rips from me. You can download PSP games from bittorents but just to be safe, I just rip my own games, Youll never know if theres a RIAA version of software developers that logs IP address that download games then they will sue you later.

I dont know if theres wrong with the M33 firmware but I tried making Pandora battery 'cuz the old battery from my fat PSP now holds less power, M33 fimrware always giving me error 8002018, I tried switching to 1.50 kernel and with UMD disk enable, it still giving me that stupid error. Plus if I do msformat of 2 diff. memory stick (at command prompt), it giving me Write Error. I tried all sorts of Pandora guides, TOTALnewbiePandora something, Pandora GUI, etc etc. all giving me error 8002018. So I gave up making pandora.

@ Filpsides
- So ripping games off ur own PSX games is safer? Isnt there a downside of ripping your own games? Some guy down the street from my house says "You need a pandora battery and a jigsaw memorystick

@Rickdaddy
- So u can update/overlap the custom firmware on Sony's offical firmware?

If you're above version 3. something, you'll need to use this $hit called pandora's battery. It rewrites every single $hit and make your thing back to 1.5. From there, you can upgrade to custom firmwares.

No I rip my own PSP games, not PSX games. You need Pandora battery if you need to install custom firmware and of course the custom firmware from a memory stick.
