Are confucious values/beliefs/customs still prevalient in China? It seems to me that it's ironic that his ideals were of a highly structured society with an emphasis on education and hierachial structures, yet when you look at China:
- everything is kind of unstructured (all over the place, just look at the roads as a prime exaple). - it's still relatively uneducated, i mean for university graduates. - it's still hierachial BUT kind of not. - OK, women arent treated like men in China, but it's worse in Japan and South Korea, confucious values oppress women. Looking at Japan and South Korea heck, even North Korea I reckon they would be more of a Confucious country than China is or ever was. |

yah..it's sad, Mao did a pretty good job of ridding mainland China of Confucian values during the Cultural Revolution (IMG:http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/icon_sad.gif)

Confucian values I reckon these days are better reflected in the Japan and Korea's societies than any Chinese territory - the hard working, humble type values. Two things I have to note: - There has been some suggestions that Korea is the most Confucious state in the world. - Some claims have been made that Confucious was actually Korean and not Han Chinese (he was from Shandong). |

First of all you don't know much about CCP history nor do you understand China in the Mao-era. Chinese wanted to get rid of alot of Confucian values cause some were just too outdated and is simply opressive. Also if you think Japan or Korea are ideal Confucian societies then you are just delusional. This post has been edited by MING-LOYALIST: Aug 6 2004, 10:17 PM |

Yup the Koreans definitely are abusing Confucian values. If you watch Korean dramas, bosses can often beat their workers senseless and the workers wouldn't even complain one bit. Those Koreans brought along their tradition to Vietnam and abuses young Vietnamese girls working in their factories. |

Exactly!!! The only time did any society almost attianed the ideal Confucian society was the Great TANG dynasty of China and maybe a short period during Zhou dynasty but all the rest were perverted versions of Confucuis used by Governments to exploit people. |

When you think about it, that older is wiser or knows best is a total load of bull$hit.
This is why it leads into problems such as comparisions amongst asians. |
