Weightlifting can stunt your growth if you start too early. It's suggested that you start at age 16. But any other exercise won't stump your growth.

lifting dumbells and benchpressing are considered lifting weights, sit ups are good, they won't stump your growth. If you wanna get in shape, take some Kung Fu, they'll really whoop your a$$ into shape without the use of weights, as well as teach you self defense.

That'll kinda be hard....its a little difficult trying to explain how moves work without showing someone, and i'm only a level 2 novice, i have no right to teach Kung Fu. I suggest you find a Kung Fu studio close by to you. Its really great excercise, its helped me get into better shape a lot.

QUOTE (KoRn @ Sep 10 2003, 08:17 PM) ya but if ur like 14 and work out everyday. but i heard that malnutrition could make it so that ur stunted Malnutrition causes your body to cannibalize itself in order to survive, so if you're growing, it would stop in order to survive first. If you work out everyday and you're 14, you just have to eat more. Eat more nutrient dense foods, especially if you're lifting weights and such. When I was starting high school and had weightlifting class for PE, I ate a ton of food. But I kept my carbs down to a minimum. What your body needs is more calcium, Omega 3 fatty acids, proteins, vitamins, and minerals. You can get most of your vitamins, minerals, and calcium in pill form. But its best to take in foods like milk, cheese, meats, fish, etc. Fish is awesome for growing and working out. It's got little fat and its high in protein. What fats it does have is beneficial to your neural system and your muscle system. Flax seed is also a good source of it and a deal at about 99 cents a pound. You should only eat like a 1/4 cup of ground up flax a day. I added on extra protein to my diet w/o adding on animal fats and cholesterol by eating tofu, and adding in protein powders like whey powder, which you can buy at GNC nutrition centers, natural/health food stores, or even at big box stores like Costco, PriceClub, BJ's, Sam's Club, etc. Oh, and remember to drink EXTRA water because of the added proteins, your body needs extra water to digest and break them down. This way you won't dehydrate either. I've grown very fond of tofu because it is low cal, no fat, no cholesterol, and high protein for muscle building. It is the same with whey. Whey can be added into a blender with some yogurt or ice cream and milk and some fruit to make like a smoothie. If you want to cut down on calories even further, put ice in and less milk and ice cream. I myself use whey, plain yogurt, milk, and fresh fruits. Egg whites are an excellent source of high protein with little cholesterol, few calories, and no fat. You can give the yolks to your dog if you have one. Cats like them too. Egg whites in a shake/smoothie would make it all foamy and frothy. Thats the secret behind an Orange Julius. |

No problem. This high protein diet is awesome for working out and building muscle. But if you stop working out, you have to stop the diet. It's hard on your kidneys and liver if you can't utilize all that protein.
