An Expat blogger in Korea alerted me to this interesting manipulation of the Youtubes by the overzealous Chinese nationalists.
QUOTE Something else I noticed over at YouTube is that if you search for torch protest videos from Seoul the first videos that come up on the search are spam videos sent in by Chinese activists showing violent Korean protests from past years in Seoul. They use tags of Olympic torch protests in Seoul in order to get the videos to turn up in the YouTube search engine. You have to search through all the fake videos before you can find the legitimate ones. This is clearly an abuse of YouTube but I doubt anything will be done about it. Canada's Globe and Mail printed couple of stories on the Seoul riots and both of the articles turned into flame fest. It looks like everybody is involved fighting over this issue. Here's one of the hot discussions going on at this time. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto.../International/ Korea Times ran an interesting article today, after the Seoul torch protest, there's a growing anti-Chinese feeling which will surely exasperate the growing anti-Korean feelings in China. The relationship between the two countries is probably deteriorating. If it gets damaged beyond repair, it will be Seoul that will hurt the most considering the sheer size differential of the two countries. But if China's relations with the rest of the world deteriorates further, Chinese will also be hurt. http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/natio.../117_23257.html South Korea has to face reality. South Korea needs friends to counter increasingly unpredictable nationalistic China. South Korea has to choose carefully what is best for the country. South Korea is not big or powerful enough to stand on its own. South Korea shares common democratic values with the US, EU, and Japan. Therefore, South Korea has to forge a strong link with them, work with them (and I don't mean just taking and not giving anything back). |

Therefore, South Korea has to forge a strong link with them, work with them (and I don't mean just taking and not giving anything back). Don't waste your time. Don't act all innocent as if you don't know that South Korean groups were well prepared to humilate China befoire the torch relay. Just that they failed in its attempt to disrupte the relay and the center of Seoul was temporarily occupied by foreingers. Your nationalists were and are still SHOCKED that you were out-numbered by Chinese protesters on your own turf. Consider that South Koreans pride themselves as the master and the mother of all public demostration, those Korean nationalists are more embarrassed by its own preformance than concerning about any skermishes erupted during the event. It's very easy to find news articles about how South Korean groups ready to disrupt the relay. They publically annonced its plan. You are pissed because you losers failed in your own country. HahAHahaHA...... QUOTE Phayul[Thursday, April 24, 2008 16:32] By Tenzin Sangmo New Delhi, April 24 - As a sign of protest at China's repressive policy in Tibet and against North Korean renegades, human rights groups in South Korea said they will disrupt the Olympic torch relay scheduled for April 27. QUOTE South Korean protesters awaiting Olympic torch By T.D. Flack and Hwang Hae-rym, Stars and Stripes Pacific edition, Saturday, April 26, 2008 SEOUL — About 1,000 South Korean protesters from various civic organizations say they’ll gather in Seoul on Sunday morning to block the Olympic torch relay. One group — the Christian Accountability for Society — posted a statement on its Web site Thursday to announce its protest over the Chinese government’s violent crackdown on the Tibetan people. The protesters plan to gather in front of the Olympic Park’s Peace Gate at 11 a.m. The torch relay begins there at 2 p.m. and is supposed to arrive at Seoul City Hall by 7 p.m. QUOTE (2nd LD) Activists rally ahead of arrival of Olympic torch By Sam Kim SEOUL, April 26 (Yonhap) -- Dozens of human rights supporters staged a rally Saturday in Seoul on the eve of the South Korean leg of the Olympic torch relay, vowing to use the occasion to raise the issue of China's alleged repatriation of North Korean defectors.......... Police are concerned scuffles might erupt between protesters and Chinese residents who were expected to take to the streets to welcome the relay. A large number of Chinese live in South Korea, including tens of thousands of young students, according to residents' associations. QUOTE Tensions mount as Olympic torch approaches Seoul
Tensions are rising in South Korea Friday ahead of Sunday's arrival of the troubled Olympic torch amid fears over a possible clash between Chinese residents and human rights activists preparing welcoming and protesting events, respectively. We're going to try to stop the relay at all costs," said Han Chang-kwon, who represents a group of North Korean defectors in South Korea.Arguing China is intensifying its crackdown on North Korean refugees on its soil ahead of the Games while simultaneously touting itself as a magnanimous host of the world event, Han said the relay is a "rare chance" to publicize the cause."We have prepared several units of defectors who will desperately try to stop the progress of the relay when it crosses one of the main bridges" which link the southern and northern parts of the South Korean capital, Han said. "Some of us even pledged to burn ourselves in protest." This post has been edited by Gucci: Apr 28 2008, 11:31 AM |

Here's a writeup of the Chinese internet reaction from Marmots - absolutely no remorse or being sorry, just more Chinese superiority drivels after another.
http://www.rjkoehler.com/2008/04/29/korean...se-blogosphere/ I'm really disgusted. If 10,000 Koreans with 30 000 Korean flags had done the same thing in Beijing (attacking Chinese citizens in Beijing), what would have been the Chinese reaction? QUOTE other than the fact that japanese imperial army were threatening the students to cheer for japan's victory, I don't see why they wouldnt? And the fact that there were over a million Japanese overlords residing in Korea at that time. Those were probably Japanese masters with their servants. |
