I'm a fan. Saw her perform three times already.
She's among the more competent female vocalist of any pinoy bands I've seen so far, with a live singing voice exactly the same, if not better than her studio recording voice. I find her music to be well defined, and she definitely has a niche market. Comparatively, she's better than Kitchie Nadal in all areas. Song selections are a bit perky/slightly teenybopper-ish (in a good mature way). Her default market is as of the moment is the young class A-C crowd (due to the nature of the songs, which are all in English). She's currently trying to learn Tagalog, but at her current state, she's already good. Pictures of her that I took when she was in her Katipunan gig http://cypocalypse.multiply.com/photos/album/149/ ![]() ![]()

QUOTE(Cypocalypse @ May 21 2008, 09:05 AM) Comparatively, she's better than Kitchie Nadal in all areas. Isn't that just a matter of opinion really. I mean, I still prefer Kitchie over this girl based on substance of the performance, and the quality of song writing. |

I have Kitchie's first album.
Kitchie suffers from a questionable set of song inclusions in her album. They don't seem to blend coherently. For example, the first song that any singer should release should be an indicator of what her music is. The first song that she released was Wag na Wag mo Sasabihin, and knowing how that song sounded, it should have been an indicator of the other songs that she would playing. But the other songs are so different that a person's sentiments towards her can be mixed. Same Ground was an obvious for her next song release because it's the next best thing after Wag na Wag Mong Sasabihin, but instead she chose to release the super sappy piano version when she could have chosen the more perky acoustic one because it's more attuned to the 1st song. The same thing can be said about Lala, releasing the perky Waitin' following it up with a sappier What About You. The difference is, there's better consistency here. There's a recognizable Lala flavor to the two--usually attributed to a more "raw" sounds of the studio recording. Kitchie's are more studio synthesized. It doesn't help Kitchie either that her next song choices are nowhere even close to the roots of the 1st album (it's already bad that the 1st album doesn't really have a definitive Kitchie flavor). She doesn't seem to fit doing a revival of Pagsubok, nor does her music in her McDonald's commercial sound that appealing. And what the heck is the point of reviving a Christmas song...."I wish I were with you"? I'm too critical about this because Wag na Wag mo Sasabihin was revolutionary and it's good. |

I say he is a music enthusiast. And I admire him for sharing his opinion and observations with us.
But please forgive me for not knowing "Lala"... I've been secluded too much from the music scene |
