I don't think there's much pictures that I could find..but I really like to see images of Laotian dances. Especially the ones that are danced for fun. ^_^

Lao: Lamvong Khmer: Roumvong but Thai... What do the Thai's call it? And to move real fluidly you gotta be drunk. Oil the hinges with some henessy and your on your way. This post has been edited by Point_Dexter: Aug 26 2004, 01:27 PM |

Ohh i had , my share of Khmer/Lao Weddings. I was so sick of weddings, I ended up makeing it a class project.
We share alot of simular beats and dance moves. Lao/Khmer: as of follows Lamvong/Ramvong. The typical general circle dance Salavan/Saravan, This orginated in Saravan Laos, and inhabitants are of Khmer decent. Morlam/Kantrum, same thing, different names, different language Uniqeely Laos Siphandone, Khonesavane, Tangvai, Phouthai, Luang Phrabang. Uses the Bamboo lute, which is exclusivly Lao. Uniquely Khmer Ram kbach, lam lao--> I assumed that this was of Lao origin, but the Lao people say its too fast for them. Khmer dance beats are a bit faster. Lao dance beats are slow and easy going. To an untrained ear, they all sound the same, but I can tell whats what. No one can outphase my drunk uncle. He can go non stop, grabbing ladies butts. Very Tance like....old peeps techno. |

point_dexter,
where are the laotians of khmer descent from? southern laos? i remember watching the travel channel and it was in laos. there were people who look just like khmer. they didn't look like the typical light skinned laotian. man, khmer people are all over mainland SEAsia but so many of them have been assimilated. |

You know I also love the ones with partners..where u dance face to face, back and fourth to the steps, and you sway hour hands in and out. And dancing with a hott person, and old uncles as well (IMG:http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/embarassedlaugh.gif)

Chuon-Cheat: I heard that the laotians of khmer descent originaled from the khmers who lived in the kingdom of Chen La, i.e. the current Champassack area in the southern part of Laos, which used to be part of the khmer empire. Many of these people (mostly men) migrated towards and intermarried with people (mostly women) from the central and northern parts of Laos. This has given rise to the current population of Laos. The southerners are well-known for being very patriotic citizens. I think the current Lao president and a few other high-ranking Lao officials, mostly those in the army, are from the south.

yea, it was known as Land Chenla or Upper Chenla. also, the khmer king gave Fa Ngum 10,000 soldiers to fight attacking tribes including the siams.
