I've noticed that there are slight physical differences between Fil-Ams and Filipinos back home. If a Filipino dressed in "American style" clothes, there's something about them that still says they're from the Philippines. My Fil-Am cousins also experienced this. When they go to the PI, even when dressed like the locals....people always know they're from the States.

I'm not saying one is better than the other or that this is always true...but for the most part, I think you can kinda tell. I wonder what IT is that gives it away...

maybe because fil-ams posses western mannerisms you could never get in the philippines?

other than the language, maybe their hair style or skin color might give it away. fil-ams are usually lighter than the sun bathed filipinos back home.

or they either fail to do one of these:

- point things with their mouth
- mano po to the elders
- greet people with the eye brows

and many more to mention....

Yes. Very different. You can just kinda tell by looking at them, observing their mannerisms, and once you hear them talk, that's when you're sure.

Filipinos, I think are more reserved, dress conservatively(at least for the most part). Fil-Ams, I would think, have more outgoing personalities. I don't know exactly what it is, but when I see a Filipino acting outside the normal boundaries of conduct in the Philippines, I can tell they are not from around here. They just seem really "out of place", but it doesn't mean they don't belong.

Well, if they're Filipinos, it's always nice to see their interest in their culture. It's not fair to separate them, simply because they grew up in a different country with a different environment, people, and culture. They have the right to be Filipino in every sense of the term.

I am a Fil-Am, but I am more Filipino than those I've met when I went on vacation in the Philippines last January.

I kinda noticed differences in the physical features. I dunno how that works, but for some reason, Filipinos in the Philippines kinda look different from Fil-Ams

Most of the Fil-Ams I know are more Chinese looking than Filipinos living in the Philippines which are ussually more Malay looking. Maybe because Chinese Filipinos have more money to migrate to the United States. Just an observation.

A typical Filipina living in the Philippines

Looks pretty much like the sister of the girl I was going out with a couple of years back. She came from Manila. No real difference in appearances, but variations in behaviour might be worth considering.

...ooo...

Sorry, someone had a shot of an American woman up there. I can't see it on the page now.

Thanks mate. beerchug.gif

That Melissa was her, although she looks a bit taller than my friend in that photo. Doesn't look any different to a normal Filipino girl, as far as I can see. I reckon that there might be different cultural aspects though. They know how to adapt to anywhere though, so that's to be expected.

Some of those melting ice-shelfs might be prone to corruption too, but other than that, not much to worry about from those penguins in the way of vice, from what I read in the newspapers down there.
