QUESTION: Is "Samdech" a royal title? I thought it was but here HENG SAMRIN and Hun Sen both have the Samdech title. Are they appointed this title by the king?

Mekong means Mother Ganges in Old Khmer.

Me=May= Mother or Female Matriarch
Kong=Kongear=Ganges

Mekong=MayKongear=Mother Ganges

There just renaming it after Mother Ganges of India.

Anyways back to the topic:

I guess Cambodia's "Samdech" is different from Thailand's where the "Somdej" title indicates very high positions appointed by King (very high royal members or very high Buddhist patriachs). Thai politicians are not titled "Somdej."
