Hi Xigon : All these scripts are originally descended from Brahmi. Modern Burmese is descended from Mon as is Shan , some Karen scripts , Dai in Yunnan and the nearly extinct Lanna Kam Muang.

Majapahitans, May I ask a question? Would you say Buddhism has a stronger influence on Indenesian culture or Muslim?

Indonesian is a multiethnic, multiculture, and multireligious society. Indonesia is myriad archipelagic country, certain part experience whole foreign influence (Tribal, Indian Hindu-Buddhist, Chinese, Islam, Christianity and western influence), while other part might absent. Certain ethnicities retain their Hindu-Buddhist culture although we might embrace Islam or Christianity. While some other even retain their tribal animist tradition. Some ethnicities had stronger Islamic influence than other.

Balinese still Hindu, while Javanese (majority) and Sundanese (second majority) retain their Hindu-Budhist heritage although majority are muslims. On the other hand Melayu, Minangkabau, and Aceh strongly shown Islamic influence.

However..., yes.., most of our popular cultural icons are derived from our Hindu-Buddhist Past.

Wayang Kulit and Traditional Javanese and Balinese dances are often featured Hindu-Budhist heritage.

Ancient form of Gamelan exist in Sailendra court as seen in Borobudur relief.
Gamelan music ensamble took form during Majapahit and Mataram era.

oh I see. I used to think Indonesian is more influenced by Islam than by Hinduism/Buddhism. But from the paintings you posted up here I see more Buddhist/Hindu elements than Islam elements. Nice paintings btw beerchug.gif
