I never ate at restaurant alone but fastfood yes, usually when I had a hour lunch from
work I'd go hit up a burger joint quick, eat then head back to work. Most people I see eating alone are on lunch from work, on their laptop, studying something of quick on the go people. |

Yeah I go to fast food places alone, no biggie. Just was wondering about the fancier places. I don't think I will anytime soon though now. Gotta clean up my diet again.

Or you cant try to pick up single women across from another table...... dining alone. "Hey mine if I join you. I hate dinning alone its so boring. I rather talk to and meet someone new......" That can work! But seeing someone playing with their electronic toy or reading a book is sometimes like pasting "loser" on your forehead. Better to sit patiently and people-watch till your food arrives. You will look more confident and at ease. Most of the time when I go out to eat alone its for sushi, so I sit at the bar and end up getting to know the itamae and sometimes nearby patrons. Of course its always better with good company. |

I eat out alone all the time, sometimes I bring my camera and take photos of the food and write reviews on YELP
I let people know if this is a good place to eat, the service the quality, the atmosphere of the restaurant, etc pretend your a food critique and write notes in your note book if the waitress asks how is everything? tell them to read about it in Sundays newspaper |

What type of loser goes out to a resteraunt and eats by himself? LOL I do! I eat alone all of the time when I'm hungry and I need to kill the hour between school and work. You get to appreciate fine food without people complaining about how they should have ordered what you ordered. |

I feel weird eating out alone at a nice restaurant. I NEED someone with me. If I wanna try their food, I'd try to get takeout or find someone to go with me..
I've eaten alone at pizza places/fast food restaurants. though ... I go when I'm on my lunch break and I almost always have a book on me so I'm not just sitting there and eating and looking around.. Nowadays, if I need to buy my lunch, I usually get takeout and then eat in my car and listen to the radio.. |

If I saw someone at a TGI Fridays eating alone for dinner with his iPod on---as a human being with a mind, I can't help but assume certain things. I mean, you are sitting at a table that is suppose to seat more than one person. There's an empty seat in front of you. Is that not alone a sign that this is suppose to be a social event? Wrong assumption. What you are seeing is the result of space planning and economics. People who dine alone do not order as much extra food and drink. The restaurant wants people in groups because (1) they will overeat while conversing and (2) it takes less staffing to serve one table of four people than 4 tables with one person. Some other valid assumptions about people seen eating alone are that their friends don't like the same foods (often my reason if its an ethnic cuisine) or their schedule that day doesn't work with their friend's schedules. I work in a University, but most of my friends work in retail so when I have weekends off, they don't .... at least not around dinner time. |

Doesn't everyone eat alone during lunch?
Most of the jobs I've been at we had to take turns for lunch so you get 30 to 60 minutes to get food. I guess some office shutdown during lunch so you can go with a coworker friend. |

What type of loser goes out to a resteraunt and eats by himself? LOL Me, I do it almost everday. I went to a Korean restaurant the other day since I've never had Korean stuff before. Lotta side dishes. I go to Diners sometimes. Those seem to be "nighthawk" type of places though so it's not so bad there. This weekend finally had some company. Took alot of people out, many times haha. This post has been edited by lilasiankid: Dec 2 2009, 04:46 PM |

I think it's just all about how you feel. Say if you don't care if you eat alone and you're comfortable my yourself, it wouldn't matter. But if you feel self conscious then you'd feel weird and insecure. And if you look insecure, people are going to possible look at you and you'll feel more awkward and the cycle goes on. So really, it's just about you being confident, mostly.

My boyfriend seems to hate going out and eating alone. I'm the opposite, I could care less (whether it was somewhere fancy or not). Eating is eating, in my opinion. If you like the food and atmosphere, and you happen to be alone at the time, you should still go. No one should be judged for something so trivial? This reminds me of high school all over again haha.

No. If you want to feel more at ease, maybe try bringing a book or something to read along to keep your mind off of it.
