MANILA, Philippines – NBA star Kobe Bryant, who arrived in the country last night to kick off his Asian tour, is now gracing an event in Taguig City, one of the activities listed in his busy Manila itinerary today.

A TV report quoted Bryant as saying that the Philippines is his favorite Asian country because the fans here have incredible passion and love for basketball.

He stressed his affection for Filipino children, saying they are different from most other kids because of their eagerness to embrace the sport.

The report said “The Black Mamba” will be giving out a “special donation” to the Gawad Kalinga (GK) Foundation. He previously sponsored a basketball program for GK when he first visited the country in 2007.

Manila was the Lakers phenom’s first stop in a six-city Asian tour.

A highlight of Bryant’s one-day visit is the unveiling of the new Nike Dream Season shoe, a first-of-its-kind lightweight and durable basketball model for outdoors.

Bryant is also expected to spearhead a clinic for promising youth players within the day. - By Dino Maragay (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)

Basketball is in his system. He encourages people, even kids to support and love basketball. And he is happy to see a people who are into basketball.

I hope Pacquiao can learn a lesson from Kobe Bryant.
