Differences in Commonly Used Terms (Mandarin), in Taiwan and China Options

drive: 開車 / 驾车

study: 讀書 / 学习

trash: 垃圾 (le4se4) / 垃圾 (la1ji1)

Bush: 布希 / 布什

Mandarin: 國語 / 普通话

these are the ones i thought of off the top of my head

Like caolucai said, most Chinese people don't say 口胶 anymore - since it sounds the same as "oral sex".

指环王 is what the Chinese officially use for "The Lord of the Rings".

保险带 is what a taxi driver told me to put on when I got in the front seat.
I was like huh? put on the condom? (保险套)

I have never heard anybody use the term 口胶, ever.

From what I know, most people in the mainland of China call LOTR 魔戒.

I've lived in China most my life and I haven't heard 保险带either, 安全带 is the most banal.
