Vietnam became the second country in Asia to get Fields Medal a.k.a. Mathematics Nobel after Japan

Cách nay ít phút, giải thưởng Fields - được xem là giải "Nobel Toán học" - đã chính thức được Liên đoàn Toán học thế giới trao cho giáo sư Ngô Bảo Châu của Việt Nam.

Lễ trao được tổ chức tại Trung tâm Hội nghị quốc tế Hyderabad, thành phố Hyderabad - bang Andhra Pradesh (Ấn Độ) vào lúc 12 giờ 55 phút trưa nay.

Cả hội trường đã vang lên tiếng vỗ tay rào rạt khi các giải thưởng được trao.

ICM 2010 trở thành một sự kiện được mong chờ đặc biệt đối với người dân VN vì gắn liền với tên tuổi và cơ hội giành được giải thưởng Fields của GS Ngô Bảo Châu.

ICM 2010 sẽ diễn ra liên tục từ ngày 19 đến 27-8 với sự tham dự của hàng ngàn nhà toán học tên tuổi đến từ khắp thế giới với nhiều hoạt động chuyên môn ở các tiểu ban khác nhau.

Tuy nhiên, sự kiện quan trọng nhất ở ICM 2010 chính là phiên khai mạc đã bắt đầu từ 11g hôm nay (giờ VN).

Tổng thống Ấn Độ Pratibha Patin đã tuyên bố khai mạc ICM 2010. Lúc này, tên của những người đoạt các giải thưởng đã có, song sẽ chính thức được xướng lên vào lúc 14g15 chiều nay.

Tổng thống Ấn Độ trao giải cho giáo sư Châu.

Shin-Tung Yau left China for British-controlled Hong Kong when he was a few months old. HK was only returned to China in 1997 . Please don't claim him when he was educated by someone else.

U.S HS math team is not the best in the HS level math competition yet they have won 13 fields medals. You guys are still stuck at HS math level (math solving robots has its limits ) while others like Americans advanced beyond that level.

US is known for their quality in higher education, while not the primary. In the long run, what do you think is going to happen?
US is already losing its edge in terms of graduated engineers compare to Asian country like (Japan, Korea, China) etc.
US always attract lots of foreign talents in their higher educations, don't you know?

VN does not really suck. They do get medals in the HS math level although, not the best and one Viet just got a Fields medal today. Don't hate, man

Yes, Japan, Korea, and even China became better, thanks to U.S's great help, not to say guys wouldn't become better without U.S's help. But the U.S's help made you guys became significantly better. Trading with the U.S's made you guys a lot of money, not to mention, many got their education, got tech transfer from the U.S.

Sorry, Quality beats quantities. Korea's or Japan's... higher college gruaduating rates don't mean much.
