Introduction:
Established in the fourth century, the city became an important trading port for the Kingdom of Sunda. It grew as the capital of the colonial Dutch East Indies. It was made capital of Indonesia when the country became independent after World War II. It was formerly known as Sunda Kelapa (397–1527), Jayakarta (1527–1619), Batavia (1619–1942), and Djakarta (1942–1972).
Jakarta is the capital and largest city of Indonesia. Located on the northwest coast of Java, it has an area of 661 square kilometres (255 sq mi) and a 2010 census count population of 9,580,000. Jakarta is the country's economic, cultural and political center. It is the most populous city in Indonesia and in Southeast Asia, and is the twelfth-largest city in the world.

You may welcome a day off from tourist and cultural sites and enjoy spending time in air-conditioned comfort, where you can relax and shop without annoying hawkers. Therefore there are choices galore for shoppers!

I was trying to give focus on one place/area in Indonesia per page (this page BALI), so I can update the first page to make a table of contents so that AFers can browse and find what they want easily I wanted it to be organized, but no worries mas! thanks for your effort!
I too made a mistake ..too many photos and not so much info, the page takes minutes to load! LOL

Hey what park has a baboon like mascotte? you could enter a cage with orang utans for a photo, I used to love that one! was it in taman?

I think either that Ragunan Zoo or Taman Safari Indonesia in Cisarua, coz in Taman Mini there's no baboon or orangutans, only birds and reptile park.

I think I got mixed up I think it's the Taman Safari, but the mascotte is the Dutch/Hollander/Monyet Belanda/Nose Monkey and it's from Dufan! lol

Ancol Dreamland, an amusement park in north Jakarta, Indonesia, the largest integrated tourism area in South East Asia is one of the most attractive places serving the densely populated city of Jakarta. It has all the adventures people crave for; Sea World, Fantasy World, Atlantis Water Adventure and Marina Beach. This is Jakarta's largest and most popular recreation park. Shopping in Jakarta is good, that's for sure.
I think I made this photo in Mal Kelapa Gading in 2007.
At the moment they are running their "Lebaran Shoptacular Promo".
Correction : DEL pointed out that this photo is actually Mal Taman Anggrek.




Sumpit the "table of contents" idea is pretty cool, but I think that eventually I should make it into a "sub-forum" type of format so that each section can have its own thread and can continue to expand without any limit.
But in the meantime, let's continue as we are.

The Indonesian Ministry of Culture & Tourism produced this advertising campaign and they were also our sponsors for this years Indonesian Film Festival in Australia.
The trailer exists in three versions - 30 seconds, 60 seconds and 6 minutes (and I have the DVD ).
Nice to see it on Youtube, but try to imagine how it is when you see it on a huge cinema screen with an Australian audience and pumping out Dolby Digital sound
It totally rocked and everybody in the audience loved it.
I mean bule were going up to our special guest Jajang C Noer and asking her about the Indo tourism trailer How cool is that ?

Yes we can, but will it make the thread more interesting for foreigners? People rather see a brochure about the best things than to read a whole book about all the things. They'll get to the book once they're really interested. That's why I wanted it to keep it limited. We can make sub-forums but I doubt it will be limited :P we already have threads like beautiful pics of indo & best indo food etc, the pics keep on coming, AFers can look there if they're really into Indonesia

^That's cool! I love the vid.. I love the trips, makes we wanna do that again!! too bad they've only shown Sumatra/Java/Bali/Pulau Komodo in the video. Indo should promote the eastern islands as well! Then you can really see our diversity! In people and nature!

KEPULAUN SERIBU

Pulau Seribu means a "Thousand Island" consisting of almost 128 small islands located in the Bay of Jakarta in the Java Sea. Most of these are inhabited and can be reach in about 1 - 2 hours from Marina Ancol by ferry or by chartered board. The surrounding reefs are home to a wide variety of fishes, making Pulau Seribu an ideal spot for diving, Snorkeling and fishing. Some of the islands is this group developed for tourism are Pulau Bidadari, Pulau Ayer, Sepa, Coconut, Pelangi, Bira, Pantara, Kul-kul and Pulau Putri. There are also cabins for tourists, besides golden beaches fringed with coconut palms. The surrouding waters are a paradise for skin divers.They are filled with a myriad of tropical fish, which live among the multicolored corals. The Pulau Putri Paradise Co. has developed Pulau Putri, Pulau Melintang, Pulau Petondang and Pulau Papa Theo as a holiday resort with cottages, restaurants, diving and sailing facilities.

You are right.
That photo is one I made in Mal Taman Anggrek..... no coconuts here. Mal Kelapa Gading has the coconut trees.

Ragunan Zoo

Ragunan Zoo is a zoo located in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, Indonesia. Its area is about 1.4 km². The zoo was established in 1864 and moved to its present location in 1966. It is inhabited by 295 species and 4,040 specimens.

The Schmutzer Primate Centre was opened in 2002, within the Ragunan Zoo but privately funded and managed separately. Dr Willie Smits of the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation designed the orangutan enclosure so that the orangutans have as natural an environment as possible. Thick dark glass allows visitors to see the orangutans while being invisible to them.
