I know some common ones, such as: Chan, Chang, Ching, Cheung, Wong, Wang, Wing, Wen, Lee, and Huang (my gf's last name).

Is Lim a Chinese last name? There's this girl I spot whose name is Sokona Lim, her first name sounds Japanese but her last name doesn't. So I'm just wondering...

Lim is Chinese(Cantonese) actually.

Hu(胡) means barbarian and a lot of northern barbarians took that surname during anchient times, so it seems that Hu Jin Tao(president) could be a decendent of a siniced barbarian.lol

Some popular surnames barbarian took are Li, Liu ,Zhao, Shi, Hu, Ma

Mine is Ye, Its more of a southern surname? A great general saved the Chu King from a seige by mounting an army which pierce through the seige and rescued him. The general wwas then honoroed and given a large estate names Ye. The inhabitants changed their last name to Ye after the general died in his honour. Later in the Song Dynasty, a High Judge, named Ye moved from Fujian to Guangdong, Guangzhou, and his descendents later settled down in Nanhai, IO am probably a close descendent from him, since my grandfather was born in Ye village(where the judge lived)

Ye is ranked 11th? I believe, last time I looked.

Mandarin - Ye
Cantonese - Yip(Yep)
Vietnamese - Diep
Korean - Yeop

lim is a chinese name... there are LOTS of lims... it's written the same as Lin, Lyn, or Lam... some of my cousins are Lims... Lim means forest right? that's how i read it... looks like two trees beside each other...

neways my last name is Ham... it sounds more korean or something but it's a messed up version of Tam, or the mandarin Tan. iuno y it's Ham, but i like it that way b/c there are less Hams than Tams... (although there are a few Hams that are white or black) what does that word mean? ppl say it means talk (b/c of that word for talk on the left of my char.), but some sites say it means gossip... =/

OH YEAH i'm 53rd...

EDIT: dude, Lam is like friggin 9th on the list...

Cantonese do not pronounce (林) as "Lim". They pronounce it as "Lam". it is the Hokkiens / Teochews that pronounce it as "Lim".

my surname is Zhuo (卓). not v common, i think.

talking abt this, which do you think is the coolest surname? my gf's surname is Long (龙). i thought that was v cool. (IMG:http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif)
