I know alot of Lao people in my area claim to be mixed Thai and I find it strange that these Lao people are usually the ones that are big fans of Thai media and entertainment. I was at a Lao house party awhile ago and all they talked about was Thailand, Thai movies and Thai music. Alot of them showed animosity to Thailand and some even said they were mixed Thai so they can't hate the Thais like that. This isn't the first time I hear about Lao people's obsession with Thailand. Prior to that I know a Lao girl who is my homeboy's sister and if u see her room all you see is Thai celebrities hanging up her walls as posters, all she listens to is Thai pop music. Matter of fact her whole family listens to Thai songs. "I asked her why would you listen to Thai songs rather than Lao?" You know what she replied? She said "Because I can understand them and I am mixed Thai plus Lao music isn't as good and they don't make that much music."
Don't get me wrong I watch some Thai movies (with subtitles) but I never say to people I am mixed Thai. Btw it was one of my Lao friend who got me into it. I find it funny alot of Lao like to bash Thais but these are the same Lao people that rather listen to Thai music and open up Thai resturants than their own Lao resturant Are they embarrassed to be Lao? Even Savan has been listening to Thai songs, watching Thai soap, but love to bash Thai people.
I think he can even read/write Thai better than Lao. One word to explain their behavior, "jealous." |

There is no such thing as mixed Thai/Lao. Lao and Thai are the same tribe, just different kingdom and king. Same custom, almost the same language and writing enough to be understood on both sides. Instead of infatuating with the Thai vs Lao sibling rivalry, why not discuss how we cooperate and trade with the world and bring prosperity to the Tai tribe overall.

There is no such thing as mixed Thai/Lao. Yeah sure. LOL @ tribes. Alot of Thais may be Tai but not all. Thai is a nationality. Malays, Khmer-Surin, Mon, ect. are alsoThais. Just cause Lao is from the Tai stock it doesn't make them Thai. Tai yes, Thai no. This post has been edited by thewiseguy: Dec 20 2010, 12:16 AM |

Thai people have no problem working with Lao. Actually, Thai people in Thailand have been helping Laos since the first day communist Laos openned the country. Only a couple of Lao yankees here who think they don't need Thai and Thailand. Despite the fact that these Lao yankee hate us, we still want to help them and I even posted the idea of unification which I think it's the best way for Lao people to survive the next decades. Thailand and Laos used to be the same country before the French came and spliited us. Thai and Lao people in Laos should have no problem being unified into one country. But for Lao yankee, they are just outsider, they need to be trained first. They are too American to even adapt to Lao people in Laos, let alone blended with Thai. They are too different from Lao people in Laos. I only saw these yankee posting about Lao silk, Lao food, Lao tattoo, Lao etc. but none of them talked about the true value of Lao people, street people. How they eat, how they sit, how they squat, how they walk, how they clean their arse in Lao style toilet etc. That's why I had to post this topic How to be a true Lao from head to toe. http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=248432 |

It's obvious that the OP is trying to hide the fact that Cambodians love telling people they have Thai blood because The Irrelevance have no self-confidence in their own Cambodian people. Even the Cambodians I know admitted that many Cambodians prefer to say they are Thai rather than Cambodian. On the other hand, Laotians are Tai, we are not Thai. The OP is a dip$hit for not knowing the difference. Siamese people changed their name to Thai, which is pronounced like our ethnic name Tai. So uneducated Khamen like thewiseguy assumed our Tai is the same word as Thai. We're not going to stop using our ethnic Tai name just because Siamese people were ashamed of their name and had to change it to something that is confusingly similar to our name. Unless you ask the person to write down the word they're saying, you would have no idea if they are saying Tai or Thai...both words are pronounced the same way. Now what is Cambodians people excuse for saying THAI because we know they are not Tai? The OP is obviously still butt hurt by me based on this thread. Thank you for responding. My b!tch bit the bait again. |

Ask any cambodian outside of AF...they will tell you many cambodians will tell people they are thai just because they were born in a thai refugee camp. Cambodians prefer to be thai because no one knows what a cambodian is. People know more about Cambodia and Cambodians more than they do Laos. Hahaha! Laos is the least known country in Asia. Even people knows more about Samoa, Somalia, Haiti than they do Laos. |

I like Thai women. About 40%, 26 million of Thai population is ethnic Lao.
