I hope that mainland China can keep its cool and slowly unclench its iron fist with regard to Taiwan in the future, as well as learn from its incredibly difficult struggle for democracy.

I seriously doubt that would happen.

TAIWAN IS ONE OF PROVINCES OF CHINA,OKAY?THERE'S NO NEED TO TALK ABOUT.
AS TO YOUR CONFUSION,I JUST SAY THAT,TAIWAN HAS ITS OWN CULTURE.EVERY PROVINCE HAS ITS OWN SPECIAL CULTURE.

What is your right to claim it?
In Taiwan, people use the same language as in mainland china. the national language are the same chinese, but in taiwan they have a local language called 'taiyu'. most of taiwanese speak chinese. all the same, the different only on the characters of china, taiwanese write traditional chinese which is original chinese character while china aminland write simplified chinese which is no meaning anymore on its character

Most Taiwanese are Han Chinese from the southern province of Fujian. Like the people in Fujian, they speak Hokkien as well. Since the KMT took over, however, Hokkien was replaced with Mandarin. As a result, even overseas Taiwanese like myself speak Hokkien better than the average Taiwanese from Taiwan.

Most 30 something Taiwanese insist that they are not Chinese but Taiwanese. They also insist that they don't even speak Chinese but Taiwanese. But the 'Taiwanese' spoken widely in Taiwan is actually a dialect from Southern China.

Is Taiwanese Chinese?

Is Jiang Jie-Shi Chinese? Is Sun Wen Chinese? What is ROC stand for? The question is answered. PRC and ROC may have different political opinion, but they are Chinese, and the region they both control together are called China.

"Han Chinese" is an ethnicity term.

"Chinese" can also mean "Han Chinese," but within the context of the disputed Taiwan political status, "Chinese" means national of PRC (mainland).

Are you guys that dumb you can't different Han Chinese with Chinese national? There is a major difference!

Ancient DNA study revealed that the genetic heritage of CSEA (and CNEA) of the Taiwan plain tribes was not only acquired during the past 400 years from people of the southeast coast of China (current belief), but could have also been acquired as far back as 4000 years ago (or more) from ancient prehistoric sailing migrants from continental East Asia.

Both maternal and paternal, and the autosomal recombining systems (HLA) of Taiwan populations revealed that plain tribes shared their genes with TwA, ISEA and CSEA but rarely with CNEA.

Non-Taiwan Aborigines (NTwA) Minnan and Hakka
1. Descendants of the immigrants during the last 400 years from southeast coast of China, they were sinicized indigenous peoples of ethnic Yueh origin (southeast Asian) .
2. After settled in the southwestern plains of Taiwan, they cohabitated with plain tribe people (matriarchal society) with resulting admixture, sinicization and disappearance of the plain tribe cultures.

The culture of Taiwan is a blend of Confucianist Han Chinese, Japanese, European, American, global, local, and Taiwanese aborigines cultures, which are often perceived in both traditional and modern understandings.[1]

it took me a while to figure this out. let me tell you something. if you hate imperialism, then you will support the 1 China policy. the taiwan independence movement was started by westerners. they want to divide China, so that they(westerners) can rule the world. they use the same tricks all over the world. what the gwailo wants to see is Chinese fighting other Chinese. and the leaders of the taiwan independence movement are guaranteed to be running dogs of their gwailo masters. every last one of them. when you support taiwan indpendence movement, you are not supporting taiwan's independence, you are helping make taiwan a puppet state of america, and China weaker. the west, and japan want control of the taiwan straits, because it's an important shipping lane. if China unified, they (gwailos) lose control. taiwan is used by the usa as a staging area to destabilise China. all this crap that you hear about the pla wanting to invade taiwan is completely nonsense. it's reverse psychology. the real aggressors are within the taiwan regime. end the division and support Chinese unity. if you want to support a separtist movement, i suggest the puerto rican, quebec, northern ireland, and basque movements, because those are actually justified.
