God in a oven.

White people - pasty, under-cooked. Not enough time.

Black people - over-cooked, crispy. Too long in oven.

Asian people - Golden deliciousness.

Can't believe you're actually refering to that dumb creation myth that explains why god made chinese the chosen and most beautiful people, and how that's why China is the middle of the Earth.

I had never heard of the term "yellow skin" before until I started living in the West. I had heard of black and white, but this "yellow" thing was a foreign concept to me. I'd rather not play the racism card so lightly, but I cannot help but feel this is purely a Western conept.

True but I dont' get offended by the word 'yellow'. White guys call themselves 'white' - it shows they aren't affected by derogatory terms. We should be the same. Take the intended racism out of the word by using ourselves without so much as a blink.

not dark enough.

qing dynasty are manchus.
to self correct myself - japanese and chinese contacts and conflicts with the west are about the same period.

the usage of orientals are based on daily usage across the boards, ie east asians, not based on dna studies.
regional usages may extend to cover southeast asians with very loose application, but that is not suitable once outside of that regional context.
ie on an international forum, or in an asian forum, orientals refers to east asians.

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't you talking about when the Europeans first met people from far eastern Asia? Once again there is no real definition for orientals nor is there an "international" definition. Every European country has different definitions for oriental. In fact, it sometimes also include Central Asia in the definition. So you're wrong to say that orientals do not include south east asia. Maybe in America or Canada the definition is just east asian.

What about these farmers?.

Japanese farmers:

Korean farmer:

Chinese farmer:

Lesson: "Don't stay under sun too long or you'll become a negro".

this is by far light, when you compare to the skin of Southeastasian farmers from Thailand, Indo and Cambo. I mean farmers, and not urban people were most of them are actually Chinese immigrants.

well, in your own picture provided, it does show southeast asians will be darker than east asians, such as that in the middle. genetics play a dominant role, activities are also modifiers, but saying that that is the sole factor and ignoring something more obvious just seem rather out of the way, and in fact, i'm wondeirng why r we even discussing on this. if we include papua new guinea into SEA, they are even darker. there is no way that you put a farmer from hokkaido to make him looks as dark as a someone from papua new guinea.

so is there a different interpretation of who are the westerners in every country?

i',m afriad we r going no where. since i do all exclusive, and u do all inclusive. and no, orientals are best defined by whom they are being called on. if southeast asians say they themselves are orientals, they certain are, and if they dun, they are not. it doesn't really matter for people who can't tell an orang asli from the mongolians to see how they define things, no matter how loose their interpretations are.

That's true anybody who gets a tan turns brown.

that is probably why the humans developed skin colors for the climate they live in.

If South east asians feel discrimination, that's their problem. I feel discrimination in America. I don't go crying a river about it.
