QUOTE Interlok: NGOs tell Malays not to vote for Indian candidates in GE
http://www.malaysia-chronicle.com/index.ph...p;limitstart=10 More than 100 NGOs under the Malay Consultative Council (MPM) coalition have vowed not to support any ethnic Indian leader from any political party in general elections after this. This is because, according to the coalition, Indian leaders and activists have distorted and influenced the government into bowing to threats and pressures over the 'Interlok' novel controversy. “This is our first step in spreading awareness of this movement so that Malays do not give their support to any ethnic Indian leader, whether in the BN or the opposition, starting this general election,” said the coalition in a memorandum they submitted yesterday to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. Yesterday, MPM and National Writers' Association (Pena) submitted by hand a memorandum each to Najib in Kuala Lmpur in protest against the government's decision to direct that certain parts of the novel, by national laureate Abdullah Hussain, be amended following objections by MIC and Indian NGOs. Among those present when the memorandum was submitted were Pena president Mohamad Saleeh Rahamad and two steering committee members of MPM, Kamaruddin Kachar and Helmi Ismail. In the memorandum, the coalition of 138 NGOs - made up, among others, of artists, intellectuals, businessmen, students and teachers - also said it believes following the pressure affected on the government that it would from now on be swayed by all manners of threats and influence. “This shows how weak the government is, that it has overly compromised with these people to the point of setting aside rational analysis in order to blunt their threats and demands,” said the seven-page memorandum. However, the coalition insisted, theirs is not an incitement to racial hatred but an expression of disappointment with the weakness of the government in cowing to blackmail. Unfortunately, no action has been taken against those that had burned copies of the Interlok novel and pictures of its author, which they said suggested of sedition, the memorandum read. Mohamad Saleeh, meanwhile, was reported to have said their requests express the voice of the Malays” and is not ill-motivated or a threat against the government. “We are only upholding the interests and dignity of the Malays as a sovereign people (pemilik ketuanan), and (the dignity) of this country and land of ours,” Berita Harian quoted him as saying. |

Why Indian are so depressed and paranoid when Malay called them Kerling. Essentially it is same as Englishman call them Indian. Kerling does not refer to low caste as some quarters are saying. There is no Kunta-Kinte in Tanah Melayu. Kerling is just another meaning for Indian. Please look at China. Who created the word China for Chinese. Chinese never ever called them as China. Chinese call themselve as Han people. Whereas, it was Malay governments who invented the word China. And the whole world accepted the Malay vocabulary. They are not Han , but China. Similarly with Japan. Japan called themselve as Nippon. But Malay invented the word Japan . And the whole world accepted this vocabulary. Actually, in European mind, Indian means the Red Indian in North America. They are the true Indian. This naive European colony, they had mixed up between Red Indian in North America and Kerling in India. We should tell United Nation to change India name into Kerling Land. India vocab must only go to the Apache in North America. ![]() "China" came from "Chin" or "Qin", which is the dynasty name of Qinshihuangdi, the first emperor to unite China. As for Japan? QUOTE The English word for Japan came to the West from early trade routes. The early Mandarin Chinese or possibly Wu Chinese word for Japan was recorded by Marco Polo as Cipangu. The modern Shanghainese (呉語) (the Wu Chinese language or topolect) pronunciation of characters 日本 (Japan) is still Zeppen [zəʔpən]. The old Malay word for Japan, Jepang (modern spelling Jepun, although Indonesian has retained the older spelling), was borrowed from a Chinese language, and this Malay word was encountered by Portuguese traders in Malacca in the 16th century. It is thought the Portuguese traders were the first to bring the word to Europe. It was first recorded in English in 1577 spelled Giapan. "Indian" has always meant Indians, people living in India. Native American is the right name for "Red Indian". "Red Indian" is an offensive and incorrect term and should no longer be used. |

Secondly its interesting that the Malay NGO's refer to Malaysia as "this land of ours" and accuse the Malaysian govnt of being weak and easily swayed by Indians and their NGOs. Firstly the land that he refers to belong to all Malaysians including the Indians secondly, it is the Malays who most often sway the political parties. "China" and "Japan" are not words invented by the Malays. BM only has what 4 original words and certainly these 2 are not among the 4. Finally native Americans are not the "original" Indians. When Columbus sailed West he was looking for a shortcut to India, and when he arrived in the Americas he thought he had arrived in India hence the term "Red" Indians. But it is degratory to refer to them as "Red Indians" becasue they are NOT Indians. They are Native Americans. Hey maybe we should also refer to the Orang Asli as Native Malaysians. |

Wow based on those NGOs' sub-intellectual argument, we should also not vote for Malay candidates in the General Election based on the action of some immature Malays in Selangor who were obviously seditious when they stamped on a cow head which is of great spiritual value for Hindus. And all those Indians did was burning the Interlok novel, not even the Muslim crescent.
West Malaysia should stop creating all this rubbish. |

Bahasa Melayu is not totally a hybrid language. All European archaelogists concluded that Bahasa Melayu is a fundamental language for all tribes in SEA. Tanah Melayu is always been referred to Malay people. However based on consensus with Malay Sultans and British before independence, Chinese and Indian communities were given citizenship. We never question your loyalty here. What our concern is your attitude towards true history. True history must be told even though it is painful to us. Malays also have our painful moment. For instance, Malay had to accept the Lost Israelian tribe as part of Malay society during 600BC. And they already affected 27% of Malay blood now. Regarding the Red Indian word. If the American natives do not accept the word Indian for degratory reason. Why it is so great for Kerling people to accept the word Indian rather than the word Kerling itself. Why not we just accept the original word for the South Asia people, i.e. Kerling. Weather it is a hybrid language or not is open to discussion, but BM only has 4 words which are unique to itself. Which language started first or adopted which words is a matter of discussion. "Tanah Melayu" is only becasue at the time when the world became smaller with sea trading, the Malays were the dominant race in Malaysia. But the true history is that the Ornag Aslis and in particular the negritos were the first inhabitants of Malaysia. This is the truest of history. Which isreali tribes are you referring to? Simply the fact that they do not wish to be referred to as keling should be enough for us to respect their views. Does it somehow offend or hurt you in anyway by referring them as Indians? |
