Each country sings pop in their own country language. Lao and Thai share so many similar words. We can detect so easily who are Lao and who are Thai when we speak to each other. But when we sing songs like Pop, the difference in accent become harder to detect. |

Their is many reason why you think Lao accent sound like Thai is because Laos is behind 40 years of modern music singing style which sound like Thailand 40 years ago. Now you can see today in Thailand that Thai accent sounding like foreign english accent nowadays.
Also Thailand in the past never really have its own talented accent because modern westernized music was not quite understood. Which is why Thai used Chinese mandarin,Cantonese,teochew,Taiwanese and other etc Chinese Tonal to mimic Thai version of the updated song. In the past, Thailand did used Chinese ethnic tonal to mimic modern singing style 40 years ago. Plus most music tonal style 40 years ago used Chinese song in Thai version just to make people think its all Thai made tonal. If you search Thai and Lao forum, you'll find that we had an argument over this topic in many threads. Why Lao people sing their songs with central Thai accent is because they have been influenced for centuries by us via Thai TV broadcast

I think they think it's more cool when singing in our accent than their own accent.
