Totoo bang ipinagbawal na ang SuperLolo?

Sinabi sa akin ng pinsan ko na bawal na sa 'Pinas. (IMG:http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/bawling.gif)

are you serious? those are like legendary. i mean come on it's been a tradition that at least somebody will step or hold 'em and blow up their body parts. and cry on national tv saying they've learned their lesson while being operated from.

7 killed in Bocaue ’cracker fire
By James Mananghaya
The Philippine Star 01/01/2005

BOCAUE, Bulacan — At least seven people were killed while two others were injured in a fire that gutted a row of firecracker stores here yesterday.

Initial reports said the blaze began when a man tested a firecracker he had bought from one of the stalls. As it exploded, it hit a stack of powerful firecrackers in a nearby store, triggering the inferno.

Bocaue Mayor Serafin de la Cruz said the blaze set off large quantities of firecrackers stored in houses and stores, blowing away walls and tin roofs and touching off successive blasts, which hampered efforts to rescue people trapped in houses. Two cars and two tricycles were also destroyed.

Firefighters said yesterday afternoon that the death toll could rise as the smoke was still thick and firecrackers were still exploding, preventing them from determining if there were more bodies in the rubble.

Fire officials said at least three bodies were found in one house on F. Halili Avenue in Barangay Turo where firecrackers were manufactured and stocked.

Six of the fatalities were identified as Dindo Vicente, 18; Sherwin Alabastro, 13; Ariston Nicolas, 13; Joward Jocoy, 12; Marcial Jocoy III, 11; and Mary Jane Jocoy, 15.

Two of the injured were identified as Boy Lizazo Sr. and his son Boy Jr. Both were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital after sustaining burns in their bodies.

Josefino Vicente, 58, wept as he recounted how he rescued his two children but failed to save his son Dindo who got trapped in a room that was quickly engulfed by fire and explosions.

"I already got a hold of his arm and I was trying to pull him out. But, I lost his grip," Vicente said, adding he was forced out of the house by the intense heat. "I wanted to run back in but it was impossible to do that minutes later."

De la Cruz said what happened was a tragedy and a warning for people to be extra cautious in handling firecrackers. "We were so close to a new year and this tragedy happened," the Bocaue mayor said.

De la Cruz said he would push through a plan to establish a firecracker-manufacturing zone located far from residential areas in his town.

The fireworks industry is a key provider of jobs in Bocaue, a poor farming town of 90,000 people with more than 2,000 legal and illegal firecracker factories and stores.

Officials have long banned the use of dangerously oversized fireworks, which maim hundreds and cause deaths and fires each year.

Through the Department of Health (DOH), the government is trying to convince the public against using pyrotechnics but many Filipinos persist in making and using them in an annual folly that turns New Year’s celebrations into bloody family tragedies.

Superstitious Filipinos believe the noisy celebrations, largely influenced by China’s tradition of welcoming a new year, drive away evil and misfortune.

Nonetheless, the DOH called on those injured by firecrackers to immediately seek medical treatment to prevent tetanus.

According to Dr. Luningning Villa, a medical specialist of the DOH’s National Center for Infection Diseases Prevention and Control, even a superficial wound and minor burns are enough for tetanus to set in.

"When tetanus sets in, the affected persons suffer locked jaws and spasms. And when the respiratory muscles get contracted they have difficulty in breathing and this could cause death," Villa said.

The DOH said many firecracker manufacturers use sand and animal manure to make an explosion louder. These could however, trigger an infection. – With Ric Sapnu, Sheila Crisostomo, AFP
