not great for the vocals, but jiyoon had strong stage presence and whoever who have done the choreography deserved a good pat on the shoulders. would even be better if they get some of the guys who danced great like jyp and wooyoung. also, clon's songs are just as hot now as it was before.

The first legitimate Korean rock band might be Add4 which formed in 1963. This song is still famous. It was covered by many Korean musicians.



[1964][Audio] Add4 "빗속의 여인" (The woman in the rain) (You must have listened to this if you have watched Memories of Murder.)

Someone in my family used to have this LP record long time ago.

There was an another rock band called Key boys a little later. They usually sung light rock like this:

해변으로 가요 Let's go to the beach

This used to be an unofficial summer song in Korea for a long time. If you don't hear this song, the summer would never come. lol

I have seen their live show on TV some time ago and they look quite old now.
Key boys are not boys any more. They are grandpas.
Picture Super Junior or Big bang 40 years from today. lol

In an interesting twist. the producers of Bump.y, a Japanese Idols group debuted on 2009, hired the music writers of KARA for their new single "Kiss!" The song is entirely in Japanese, there are no Korean members in the group. This means the musical team was hired purely based on their talent. I bet this is just the start of many types of different collaborations to come between the two countries.

^ The composer team must be Sweet Tune. That's a cute group. A few weeks ago, Avex and YG jointly formed a new sub-company called YGEX. I don't know exactly how it works yet. There is a new joint drama fund, too. The notable participants are Pony Canyon and TBS from Japan and SM from Korea.

One of my favorite Korean R&B divas is Park Jung Hyun (Lena Park). I love her older songs.

Onions were famous singer song writers in 1970's.
Their debut song, 편지 (The Letter) was a big hit in 1973.
You can see them singing "The Letter" in this video. Unfortunately, it only shows half of the song, though.

Park Ji Yoon was a teen model. She was grade 6 in this ad with young Jang Dong Gun.



She was 16 or 17 when she debuted as a singer in 1997. JYP wrote some of her songs. She returned after a long hiatus in 2009.

I suspected Choreography, customs and vocal training. One, the dancing is not too cute nor not too sexy either - if it was Japanese choreography, I think it would be Hello Kitty cute. Likewise, the outfits are cute but not frilly cute. And last, they trade of the singing which is common in Kpop - Jpop is different: the singing parts are parsed proportional to member ranking; High rank lots of parts, low rank few parts.
