those links are awesome, thanks! but yea, i wish it was modified and modernized
made mainstream/infused into popular culture as well not only kept in the traditional arena. Its probably easier for djs and composers maybe. If there are any electronic korean djs that also use traditional korean music..would be so cool
The music that groups like Sorea and Miji are doing isn't exactly in the traditional form. They can be more "experimental" but I like them the way they are now. There is a category called "fusion gugak" (퓨전 국악) and there are quite a few groups doing it. I guess you mean infusing it into the most internationally trendy types of music so it can be even used in the upbeat club scene or even follow the path of someone like Vanessa Mae. Commercial success is a tough beast to meddle with.

Insooni is considered in Korea, one of the Korea's greatest legendary pop singers.
Yep, she is considered one of the greatest divas in Korea, no doubt.

The pop-rock band Sweet Revenge made their first appearance on TV. They have been performing in Hongdae for a few years. The vocalist has a nasal sound, which some people might dislike. embarassedlaugh.gif

[Live] Sweet Revenge "꽃보다 남자" (Boys over flowers) (Originally sung by F4 in Taiwanese drama "Meteor Garden".)
[2011][Live] Sweet Revenge "Rule Breaker" (First TV appearance. MV is here.)

Tensi Love from Pastel Music.

[2007][MV] Tensi Love "Hey Now"
[2009][MV] Tensi Love "Cake House" (Don't stop me from eating "gay" lol)
[2010][MV] Go Ji Hoo (Tensi Love) "Ha-A"

This translation is good for that song.

[2006][MV] Rollercoaster "숨길 수 없어요" (Can't hide)
[2006][Audio] J & HowL "사랑인가요" (aka Perhaps Love)
[2008][MV] Jung Yup "Nothing Better"

I like these two songs.

The band reminds me of SCANDAL - 4 member; leadsinger-rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass and drums
I think her nasal voice makes her unique.

APRIL KISS will be debuting with their digital single album, "WANNABE", on Mnet's "M! Countdown."

Rookie girl group APRIL KISS is already receiving the widespread attention of fans all over the world before even having made their debut.

Last week, the girls unveiled themselves in the form of a new teaser as well as the opening of their official Facebook page. Fans from all over the world flocked to the page to leave encouraging and supportive comments like, "We're waiting for your debut," "I'm really curious about your title track and music video," and "Looking forward to what kind of stage you'll be presenting!"

Their videos have also been receiving much love, earning views despite being rookies that haven't debuted yet. Their agency responded to the warm love by saying, "We're so thankful for the love the members are receiving. Since expectations are on the rise, they're preparing to improve and show a better image. We ask that you continue to look forward to their debut stage on September 1st."

I think the vocalist's voice is also the kind that's easier to find from Japanese female pop singers. embarassedlaugh.gif

I'm curious how they are gonna make themselves stand out overcoming late mover disadvantages. icon_neutral.gif The gimmick known about this group so far is that that their average height is supposed to be like the tallest out of all Korean girl groups lol

[1995][MV] GIRL "Aspirin"
[1998][MV] EVE "너 그럴 때면" (When you are like that)
[2001][Audio] Wiretap in my ear (내 귀에 도청장치) "E-mail" (This is such a forever alone emo song. "I even hate oxygen and sunlight now!" lol)

That's the first time I heard of such a gimmick. I hope the production company knows what they are doing.

There are Korean pop songs where traditional instruments are incorporated here and there. Haegeum (#325 post) is a popular choice because it can emotionally express a wide range of notes. Gayageum is another popular traditional string instrument that was modified from Chinese guzheng. Watch this North Korean girl destroying it.

Cho Ok Ju playing gayageum

See what it's like to cover a K-pop song with gayageum.

SNSD's "Gee" played by gayageum, Janggu and guitar

Sorea is a promising traditional music (gukak) group who don't shy away from showmanship.

I am listening to these every day.

Go Ji Hoo sounds better without autotune in dreamy electro pop.

[2007][Live] Tensi Love "Edge of Infinity" (She holds the mic like a rapper lol)

Eloise is also under Pastel Music.

[2011][MV] Eloise "진심을 너에게" (My true heart for you) (I like the speeding guitar riff with escalating beats.)
[2011][MV] Eloise "Hysteric Song"

Now that ReindeerGirl mentioned Cho Yong Pil, he did make some great songs.

I like these two songs the most.

[1988][Live] Cho Yong Pil "Mona Lisa" (From his 40th debut anniversary concert in 2009)
[1991][Audio] Cho Yong Pil "꿈" (Dream)

The teaser for KARA's "STEP" looks good. They will come back to Korean TV soon.

icon_smile.gif I know.

Soprano 조수미 spelled her last name in English "Jo", though.
