^ I see one SHINee fan right there. embarassedlaugh.gif I like "Replay"'s instrumental arrangement just fine.
I read Big Bang has a plan to have concerts in Europe this year, working with Live Nation.
I like 2NE1, too. R&B tunes like "It Hurts" and "Lonely" are gems and "Fire" will be remembered as a classic upbeat K-pop tune down the road.

[2010][MV] 2NE1 "아파" (It Hurts)
[2011][MV] 2NE1 "Lonely"

This is the original Bobby Kim song with Yoon Mi Rae (Tasha).

[2004][MV] Bobby Kim feat. Yoon Mi Rae "It's Alright. It's All Good"

Have you listened to her before? A couple of recommended songs here

QUOTE (Sumpit @ Feb 10 2012, 05:01 PM) *
Se7en - When I Can't Sing
Se7en - Somebody Else Is it me, or does this song lack power? When he sing 'nobody else' he should make that run last longer and sing to a highter note
I guess it's meant to be that way. Pretty easy on the ear. Check out Se7en's debut song if you haven't.

[2003][MV] Se7en "와줘" (Please come back)

QUOTE (Sumpit @ Feb 10 2012, 05:01 PM) *
..I heard this on the radio?!
B.A.P. - Warrior

This song is jamming!! I don't like the concept that they all bleached their hair in the MV. blond equals warrior? Heck, black hair is more scarier/warrior like to me..
Did you hear it on some European radio? Maybe BAP stands for "Blondes Are Powerful" like Goku lol I want the bunny helmet. eek.gif

Kim Gun Mo is a big name from the 90s. This song has been remade many times.

[1995][Audio] Kim Gun Mo "아름다운 이별" (Beautiful farewell)

I put many songs I post here in this index. You may find some new songs you like.

LOL.. Put a sock in it Doggyji! embarassedlaugh.gif At 1st I thought they were more gay than Ricky Martin, but then I watched closely to their dancing skills and they're off the hook, all in sync like MJ level. Then I listened carefully to their songs I was astonished that they are really nice to hear lol oh butt fu-k it they're good (#shame) they still look like pretty girls though

I like 2NE1, too. R&B tunes like "It Hurts" and "Lonely" are gems and "Fire" will be remembered as a classic upbeat K-pop tune down the road.
Dara <3 I like Clap Your Hands, Follow Me, Can't Nobody and I Am the Best!

Yeah I dunno, I get annoyed with it. Feels like if it's unfinished work.
Yup I know Se7ens debut song.. He's the 1st Korean artist that I liked when the 'Korean Wave' caught me in 2004 or 2003. I Also have one of his albums :P and I wanted to copy his fashion style in his 'Hikari' video, but unfortunately, it didn't suit me!

I want the bunny helmet. eek.gif
Me too! It's the bomb!! It does looks very Satanic lol

Clicking through the related videos, I came across this one:
EXO - What is Love? I love this song! the musical arrangement is superb, gives a nice vibe to the song but I prefer the Chinese version, dunno why.
Hmm after googling, I found out that Ted Riley collaborated with this group.. figures that awesome sound! Dammit, can't Ted Riley work in Indo for a while??? Jealousy is a b¡tch.

edit:

Sad sad sad day today! Whitney Houston (48) has passed away! cry2.gif cry2.gif
Forever be missed, thank you for being a part of shaping so many artists, and others icon_smile.gif

No comparison. The studio was very lively. I'm amazed by the French Sones shouting fan chants in Korean. "지금은 소녀시대, 앞으로도 소녀시대, 영원히 소녀시대!" embarassedlaugh.gif

In this case, not only atmosphere of the studio but also sound, stage setting of the French one look more cool and fancy than American one (but their camera angle/skill is not good..)

And yes, it seems that not only Asian fans but also Western fans have been sharing Korean teens fan culture now. i hope they only learn good ones from Korean teens, not some immature fandom ones lol (though that's just case of minority)

Here's English subtitles version one

Those two songs are awesome! man, ROK was even good back then with the whole music scene?!

I guess no small number of Koreans who had experienced 90's Korean pop music scene would think 1990's one was more renaissance than 2000's one in term of diversity, catchy melody songs, meaningful lyrics, etc..

Of course, after-2000 Korean music scene has been more developed technically and has been much more well known abroad through development of social media such as youtube. but i think there are also many regressions in nowaday Korean pop musics in term of quality in many meanings.

This is similar to American case. i personally think there were more catchy tunes songs in 90's than todays in US pop music scene. the majority of US pop songs that i like are 90's ones. and also Europe is the same. 80's-90's Euro-pop was much more renaissance than today (i remember we talked about this kinds of topic in other thread before icon_smile.gif )

I guess this kinds of Korean music scene's case is not the only one in Asia?

embarassedlaugh.gif It's rare for guys to like a boy group at first sight. You just slowly get to realize they actually know what they are doing if they are good. What I've found interesting is that popular girl groups have so many female fans as well as male fans whereas most boy groups are almost totally dependent on fangirls. Guys occasionally listen to boy groups if there are good songs but they don't follow the idols. On the other hand, popular girl groups have many dedicated fangirls. Many girl group fan forum administrators are female.

Two female veteran vocalists that I like.

[1995][Live] Lee Sora "처음 느낌 그대로" (Just like the first feeling)
[1988][Live] Lee Sun Hee "나 항상 그대를" (I always...you)

This channel has lots of old Korean pop songs from the 90s.

pops8090

While I can find many good lyrical ballad and folk songs from that era, I'm happy with rock and electronic music since 2000 with the wave of new bands. The total number of dance pop songs produced now in Korea is much higher than back then. We are just more likely to hear crappy songs as well as catchy tunes. There are some fans who are already nostalgic about K-pop circa 2007. embarassedlaugh.gif This always happens.

Some performances from the last week's episode of SBS "Survival Audition K-Pop Star". Park Jimin is getting lots of attention. She's still 15 years old and we don't know how talented she will grow up to be.

[Audition] Park Jimin " I Believe I Can Fly"
[Audition] Baek Ayeon "Be Be Your Love"
[Audition] Lee Hai "너를 위해" (For you)

From this week's episode,

[Audition] Baek Ayeon "하루하루" (Day by day) (Big Bang's song. She got a ticket to perform on the live stage. I've been supporting her all along.)
[Audition] Lee Michel "그대의 향기" (Your scent) (Classic ballad from SM composer Yoo Young Jin. She's one powerful vocalist but she had a terrible throat condition. BoA was upset she couldn't take good care of herself. She still managed to get in the final top 10.)

SNSD finished their concert in Bangkok. Thai fans holding signs that say "785 days of waiting".

Ha! Well.... *blank*
USA is copying what Europe did back in the 90's/early 2000's. I've seen it already. It's good for dance/techno/electro acts (it's improving), but sadly it's destroying the hiphop and r&b world. Bring back the New Jack Swing era!!!

Well thanks for clearing that out! embarassedlaugh.gif Hmm I'm not ashamed to admit that I did kinda like 'N Sync's songs from their 3rd and 4th album lmao. You have to agree that they were good haha. Of course I would never idolize boybands not do I follow them, whichever country they're from embarassedlaugh.gif
Problem is with these girlbands is that they're all just dolls, no personality and I can't effin relate to what they're singing or dancing!
"[All] Girls bring the boys out
[Yuri] I wanna dance right now
We can show 'em how the girls get down" lol.
Well the plus point is that they're usually hot and are able to sing.

That is just one type of their repertoire. One thing about popular idols is that you get to know them from various angles through numerous TV shows. They are not just dolls on stage any more after you've seen them for hours and hours on TV. The notorious enthusiasm of Sones don't just come from SNSD's "doll-like" image.

Have you listened to these songs?

[FMV] SNSD "영원히 너와 꿈꾸고싶다" (Forever)
[Live] SNSD "Born To Be A Lady"
[Live] SNSD "Dear Mom"

Compilation of "Complete" from Asia Tour. One of my favorite songs.

[Live] SNSD "Complete" in Seoul
[Live] SNSD "Complete" in Tokyo
[Fancam] SNSD "Complete" in Shanghai
[Fancam] SNSD "Complete" in Taipei
[Fancam] SNSD "Complete" in Singapore
[Fancam] SNSD "Complete" in HongKong
[Fancam] SNSD "Complete" in Bangkok

I love this Taeny performance in this tour. So much energy and interaction. The duo deserves their own duet songs.
[Cover] Taeyeon + Tiffany "Lady Marmalade"

Btw, N'Sync was good. biggthumpup.gif

TV show appearance alone won't get them the top popularity but it definitely helps as long as it's backed up by their stage skills and catchy songs. In this age of pop idol saturation, they have to get themselves known via various channels. Even if you are already popular, TV shows help you stay relevant to the general public. On the other hand, YG artists hardly show up on variety shows yet they are also very popular.

Btw, have you seen this? K-ON real-life version! embarassedlaugh.gif Maeda looks cool.

Kinda like American Idol (or any other star seach tv shows). You see/hear the artist way too much, also on a personal level. You easily get bored with them once they're out of the contest. There's no mystery left about the artist. It's like you know already everything about them. -__-

No I have not listened to those songs (yet) I kind of despise SNSD after they dropped their single 'Nobody'. And all those weird South East Asians were making gay parodies on youtube embarassedlaugh.gif
I mean wtf.. only girls can pull that dance off! XD

Yes RIP Whitney!!
To keep it in the Korean spirit: Daeho & Lee-Nu - I Have Nothing

Marvin Gaye - Abraham, Martin & John Should add the name Whitney to that list
Memoring Miss Houston Jesus Loves Me (live)
Sad I haven't seen her live in concert.. I've seen CeCe in concert though, hope she'll make a good song for her best friend icon_smile.gif

You want them to remain "mysterious"? embarassedlaugh.gif "American Idol" is not a good comparison. Korean TV appearance is not one-dimensional. You see them on dramas/sitcoms, talk shows in different styles, Karaoke shows, game/sport shows, farming, babysitting, virtual dating, mentoring, camping, modelling, etc. over the past 4~5 years. There have been many fun moments.

You've been confused all this time? lol Wonder Girls have five members. SNSD has nine. I can offer you "K-pop Girl Groups 101" embarassedlaugh.gif

소녀시대
少女時代
SNSD
So Nyeo(Nyuh) Shi Dae
Soshi
Shao Nu Shi Dai (Chinese pronunciation)
Shou Jo Ji Dai (Japanese pronunciation)
Girls' Generation (Official English name)
GG

Same things.
The videos I posted above are ballads. Check them out when you have time. I chose good videos.
Compare these two MVs below. Totally different stage concepts.

[2007][MV] SNSD "Kissing You"
[2010][MV] SNSD "Run Devil Run"

You can imagine the gap between those who just got to know about SNSD through "The Boys" and those long-time fans who've seen it all.

That's pretty good interest in SNSD. I guess there is something for SNSD that clicks well with the Sinosphere. I'm curious what indicators Sogou music use to make the ranking.

play count, and download count. sogou music is one of the largest music portal in china, and possibly in the world. you can search just about any song in the world on it.

they also have this "music box" online music player which is very popular and a lot of people use it to listen to music online.

I see. I guess they use the total accumulated counts so far. "Gee" is still No. 1 for SNSD! "Telepathy" is pretty high for some reason.
