It's not that I like Gangsters... ...it's just that there are very few REAL Chinese movies that show a lot of character and reflect societal reality. I don't like all gangster movies though, I really dislike John Woo's cliched flicks. Feng Xiaogang and some Taiwanese films are great too, but they got more commercial these days.

One of the good Mainland movies I saw is "Shower".

I like "REAL" movies and films, i.e., art that reflects life. It doesn't mean it can't be fantasy, as long as it says something that is meaningful, that tells us all about some DEEPER truth about human nature, eg. Terry Guillaume's "Brazil".

I like laughing at Stephen Chow's movies, but they are ultimately feel-good fantasies, though less pretentious than John Woo. Zhang Yimou used to keep it "real", but unfortunately, not anymore.

Thanks, I'll catch it. I have high expectations for Taiwanese movies, after Hou Hsiao Hsien and Ang Lee, who are very reality-based. I worry it's too much like "Nana" type of Japanese movies.

Very nice MV from Alan Kuo, thanks! Brilliant cinematography, reminds me of Fight Club. Lyrics are great too.

One of my absolute faves from HK, Johnnie To captured HK so well in this frighteningly real film. It is a very intelligent and evocative thriller, though psychologically gripping, not an "action" film, but keeps you guessing till the end :

Detective Dee is an enjoyable thriller, not too deep or anything, but good entertainment.

Unfortunately, with Jet Li's retirement, there isn't another martial arts star to take over the genre!

Sure! "狂想曲" means "Fantasia", and the lyrics are a bit nonsensical, about opening a book and falling into its world, going crazy over the ancient rhythm of Haydn and the Theory of Gravity of Newton, and feeling like he can Fly. It's not bad though, original in its own way. This song reminds me of old school rock, when bands like Queen included orchestral arrangements into rock opera music like "Bohemian Rhapsody". Can you hear some Michael Jackson style of singing here?

Did I post before about Ke Ke Xi Li, a great film about the wilderness and endangered Tibetan Antelope in Tibet? This is one of the most achingly beautiful but difficult to watch films ever made. It is stunning quasi-documentary, brutal and tragic, not a dry eye in the house, and not for those who like typical movies and their plotlines.
