Imagine the world as we know it dead and gone buried beneath the ashes of some great cataclysm. Social order remains in some of the larger cities but do the roads becoming the homes of highwaymen supplies are becoming few and far between. No more big government to keep its eyes on its citizenry the best and worst of people have been brought out. Manafacturing is at a standstill and industrilization as we know is no more. Slowly the world is regressing to simpler time and even now cities are becoming states.
How would you fare in such a world? This post has been edited by YourMuDoIsWeak: Jun 22 2011, 09:22 AM |

Situation report:
Assuming it’s The Road type of a situation, the sunlight will be fairly dim and the air would be toxic. The water would be also toxic and most plants would die quickly. Animals other than humans and pets, having nothing to feed on, would gradually die of starvation. The dark side of human nature will overtake law and order and marauding gangs will infest the streets. If you’re too young, old, or weak, or even too nice, some @sshole with a weapon will take it upon himself to prey on you. At this point, it would be impractical to try to survive on your own. Since the main priorities are food, water, and clean air, the first step for an organized group would be to collect as much packaged food items, clean water, and gas masks as possible. To avoid the marauders, you could hide out in the wilds or in underground tunnels. For a sustainable food source, you would need to search stores for seeds and bags of soil, and try to grow crops indoors using fluorescent lighting. Finding a power source and a renewable water source will probably be the main problems. The surviving groups would need to regulate nutrition carefully to prevent conditions like rickets and scurvy. Doctors, engineers, chemists, etc. would be extremely valuable, on top of people with strong muscles and skill at fighting. Over time, you’d need educators to pass knowledge onto the next generation. You’d probably do well by collecting a lot of books and artwork, rather than burn them for fuel. The toxic conditions outside will possibly continue for centuries(?) and may result in radiation damage and other health problems. The best bet is to stay underground and let the cannibals and fanatics kill each other off. But seriously, would you rather sleep, or go through hell just to live on a dead planet?
