I have a Tiger brand whose inner pot's teflon coating is flaking off. They say it's toxic. Aluminum is a no no. I'm looking for a stainless inner pot. I have so far found MIRACLE and TATUNG brands on the internet. They both have stainless inner pots. I find the mechanism of Tatung very interesting. It's not conventional.
Has anyone of you have any of these? Any feedback? Thanks.

I don't know but I ask you, why is an aluminium innter pot a no no? Does it effect the rice in a toxic way?

Aluminum is linked to Alzheimer's disease. They can't prove it yet. But better stay away from it.

I see, I think I had a rice cooker with an aluminium inner pot a long time ago.

I will check my current rice cooker if it is aluminium.

This could be in lounge chat, it is very useful for all asians.

aluminum is third most abundant element on earth. it's in all the food we eat and the air we breathe.

it's hard to believe something we're constantly bombarded with every day could be too bad for us.

I guess the teflon itself is likely to be pretty inert and just pass through you.

I read somewhere that teflon may actually be bad for you too (obviously if you ingest pieces of it & not the cooking food on top of it part of it).

I agree that aluminum has a bad effect for our health and though it is not yet proven that it may lead to Alzheimer disease, it is really better to stay out on it. Rice cooker is one of the important appliances in kitchen that's why securing it as safe as possible is a big check but I wanted always wanted to use an eco friendly stuffs. Economical and alternative way is always a yes to me plus it saves a lot of my personal loan. Honestly, I always turn to eco friendly works and activities and even materials.

Does your family use the model that uses about half full of a glass of water between the pot and the heater itself? They call that indirect heat. I wonder how thick the stainless pot is? I think I'll give it a try. I know Tatung brand since I was a kid back in the Philippines.

I don't really care so much about anything for myself but now I have small kids and they eat rice every meal. If I have to spend just over a hundred bucks on this one for their safety, why not?

I read somewhere about it getting in the air when cooking. It also gets into our system through breathing on the air inside the household when the pot is being used.

Although some articles say it's harmless, yet they can't provide information about long term effects.

Yep.

Same. for years at my moms house. Several years back when i moved out, I got no-namer water pot. The things shut off thermostat broke in the middle of the night while I was sleeping. It didn't shut down - it just kept boiling and boiling. It almost burned the apartment down. My roommate saved us by waking up to go take a piss. He noticed the kitchen was hot and steamy and woke me up. The water had all boiled away and part of the plastic parts had started to melt!!!

Stuff like rice cookers and water pots can burn down your house!

Rice cookers have become a very essential gadget in many homes as one can cook rice, dal and vegetables all together at one shot just like conventional cookers. The only difference is that these electric rice cookers need not be watched to switch off.

There are so many brands of rice cookers. Black Decker, Bajaj, Kenstar, Philips, National Panasonic all have their own rice cooker models. National Panasonic rice cookers are the pioneers in the Rice Cooker market. They have different rice cooker to suit the size of the family and your budget too.

Now a days, there is a model available in National panasonic where the rice cooking vessel is anodised which is non stick and is also easy to clean. It is better to go for that particular model than the regular aluminium ones.

The very latest model of rice cookers comes with timer settings for different kinds of dishes.
