nah, it's a big and hidden issue. even among academician, i observe the same behavior. good thing is that the tide seems to change, so only until another human revolution occurs in the east, i just don't see how to change this fact.

Hasn't the preference for lighter skin existed in China and asia in general well before white people came? Didn't Geisha and Chinese courtiers powder their faces?

I think it might have less to do with western economics and maybe more to do with taking advantage of a preference that predates Europeans being in China. I mean, people who worked out the fields would have dark skin. Its only been recently that even having a tan was considered attractive in the west as a sign of wealth. What will change this will be when a similar shift happens in China I think, and economic circumstances in Germany or the US have a lot less to do with it.

EDIT: I know a Chinese girl who was an exchange student in Nigeria, and when she came back to China a lot of people told her that her skin was dark, like this was a really bad thing, as if she had gotten fat or something.

Yeah that makes sense, kinda sad for me tho in Nigeria all the Chinese were very friendly but I get the impression that might not be the case if I go to China. I guess I will see. In Nigeria none of the Chinese women would date a Nigerian, and I can only think of one Chinese guy whose daughter did and that didn't end well lol. There was one young guy tho who dated a bunch of Nigerian girls, but I think he left good thing to because I think one of them wants child money from him.

Some Chinese have a superiority complex,so the West humiliating China with treaties,attempting to colonize China and forcing opium down the populace throat is not a good way to entertain these people. The lighter skin thing, as Yerroperil already said, signifies a higher status back then. Back then East Asians prefer light skin only among themselves, however. White people's skin color was not exactly appealing, for example, to the Chinese. Hence, why white people are sometimes called white devil.　

P.S. I don't actually care about this, but I'm just explaining that "light skin" is only preferential among Asians, not among other races.

You obviously don't like Black people, not all Blacks act like that it just seems the ones in America do.
