London riots: victim in YouTube video is Malaysian student
Asyraf Haziq, who was robbed by looters as he sat injured and needing help, is recuperating in hospital Haroon Siddique guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 10 August 2011 11.59 BST A man who was robbed in the London riots as he sat injured and in need of help has been identified as an overseas student from Malaysia. Asyraf Haziq's plight was captured on video and uploaded onto YouTube where it has been viewed more than a million times, becoming one of the most arresting images of the disturbances so far. The Malaysian embassy has said the 20-year-old first year student at Kaplan International College is being treated at the Royal London hospital, Whitechapel, where he is to have an operation for a broken jaw. He has suffered broken teeth. Haziq's mother, Maznah Abu Mansor, 47, told Malaysian website, the Star: "I was initially very worried but I'm glad that he is all right. However I am not able to talk to him because of his injuries." Haziq was bleeding from his mouth, sitting down on the pavement next to a pool of blood on Monday evening when a group of young men appeared to try to assist him, helping him to his feet, only for them to rummage through the contents of his rucksack and remove items, leaving him to stagger off in a daze. Haziq reportedly had his mobile phone and wallet taken. He was on his way to buy food to break his Ramadan fast when he was attacked at 7pm in Barking, east London, according to the Star. Pictures and a video of him recuperating have been posted online by Haziq's friends and people have been expressing support for him on Twitter using the hashtag #getwetllsoonashrafhaziq. There are about 13,600 Malaysian students in the UK. The Malaysian high commission in London has responded to the riots by advising Malaysians to "avoid high risk areas". In a statement on its website it says: "All Malaysians living in or visiting the United Kingdom are advised to exercise maximum alert and vigilance while they are in public places, especially in areas affected by the riots." Dzuhair Hanafiah, president of the London UMNO Club, which takes its name from Malaysia's main political party and provides welfare services for the Malay and Malaysian community in the UK, tweeted that he had been helping students move from areas deemed to be unsafe. "Received call from female students in Peckham asked to be moved to safer place. Me and Nasri going there at 4am. It's 3.20am now." A spokesman for the Malaysian high commission said it was providing consular assistance to Haziq and that the deputy high commissioner, Wan Zaidi, had visited him in hospital. |

I don't get it, did he get beaten up first by others from the riot, or did he bleed for other reasons??
At least he's getting his PSP replaced, by Sony. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/news/a3...ed-by-sony.html Hope he'll recover soon and that the scums/twats will suffer more than the victim. Edit: never mind, I know now: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14476828 This post has been edited by Sumpit: Aug 10 2011, 04:26 PM |

Mob pretended to help victim while stealing his backpack
ONE MAN'S EXPERIENCE: MOHAMMED AZHRAF Hazig (20) was lying on the ground near a pool of his blood when a mob stole his backpack. They appeared to be helping him to his feet – only to rob him as he remained in a dazed state. One robber took his games console and discarded the rest of his backpack on the ground. Mr Hazig, who is studying at Kaplan International College London on a Malaysian government scholarship, was riding his bicycle to buy food for Iftar, the evening meal Muslims eat to break their fast during Ramadan. The mob took his bicycle and mobile phone. They then assaulted him, breaking his jaw and fracturing his teeth. The incident, which happened in Barking, east London, on Monday night was captured on camera by an onlooker and posted on YouTube. It has already been viewed more than a million times. British prime minister David Cameron alluded to the attack when he referred to elements of “sick” Britain in a speech yesterday. “When we see the disgusting sight of an injured young man with people pretending to help him while they are robbing him, it is clear that there are things that are badly wrong with our society,” he said. Mr Hazig is due to have surgery on his jaw at the Royal London Hospital. He has been described as being in “good spirits”. |

As the London riots continue, one video of a bloodied 20-year old man with a broken jaw being mugged of his PSP leads Sony to announce that it will replace it.
Many of the images currently coming out of the London riots are disturbing, to say the least. With the violence spreading to other English cities including Liverpool and Birmingham, the financial toll will be high, but the cost to the average person caught in the riots could be much higher. Stories of family owned businesses occupying buildings that are well over 100 years old but are now charred husks are coming to light, hundreds of people have been arrested and a few deaths have also been reported. But one of the most disturbing images comes from a video shot in Northern London on Monday night, as a young man with a broken jaw, sitting in a pool of blood, is helped to his feet only to be mugged. Malaysian student, Ashraf Haziq, 20, was walking to see a friend when he was randomly attacked and severely beaten. The attackers broke Haziq’s jaw, knocked out several teeth and stole his bike. As he lay bloody and beaten, a second group approached him, seemingly to help him up, but then proceeded to riffle through his backpack and steal his wallet, phone and a Sony PSP. The video below has aired several times across Great Britain, and his story has been reported by most of the major newspapers. As a result, Haziq has since become something of a poster boy for the lawlessness and violence of the riots, and many see his attack as symbolic of the nature of the riots themselves. In response to the incident, a website was created called “Let’s Do Something Nice for Ashraf,” which is asking for donations to be used to help Haziq (there is a poll to decide exactly how best to use the money). The site has gained the attention of many, including Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) marketing director Alan Duncan, who posted to the site that Sony would “like to give him a new PSP and games.” A rep for SCEE later confirmed with VG247 that they were looking for Haziq, and that Namco Bandai has also pledged to send a package of games to him. Whether it is a genuinely nice act or a PR stunt, it is a good move by Sony, who have been dealing with their own problems during the London riots. Earlier this week rioters looted and burned a Sony distribution center in Enfield, a borough in Northern London. Haziq, who has only been in England for a little over a month, is currently recovering in a London hospital and will likely need a metal plate in his jaw following surgery. The police have identified at least one of the men involved in the mugging, and arrests are said to be forthcoming. |

It is a nasty incident and one hopes the culprits can be caught and be given the justice they deserve. Such cowardly act. The Bolehland government is quick to act though, spending RM20,000 (roughly USD7800) to send Asyraf's parents and brother to London. Asyraf was interviewed on CNN this morning, he seemed OK and even smiling recounting his nasty ordeal. Asyraf is lucky.... Umno cares... of course there is Tanga too...
Asyraf’s parents leaving for England today : http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...&sec=nation QUOTE KUALA LUMPUR: The parents of the Malaysian student attacked and robbed by rioters in London will fly to England today. Umno Information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan said it would sponsor three flight tickets worth about RM20,000 for Mohd Asyraf Haziq Rossli’s parents and his younger brother. ALAS! There is no such help nor luck for Asia Bibi, the Paki Christrian woman wrongly accused of blasphemy and is sentenced to death under the barbaric Sharia law... Source: http://www.thepakistanupdate.com/tag/asia-bibi/ QUOTE The most recent reminder of this came Wednesday in Islamabad when suspected Taliban militants shot dead Shahbaz Bhatti, Pakistan’s 42-year-old minister for minority affairs and the only Christian in the overwhelmingly Muslim nation’s cabinet. His crime? Supporting the repeal of a barbaric blasphemy law that makes insulting the prophet Muhammad punishable by death. Malaysian mugging victim Ashraf Haziq says 'Britain is great' Student attacked in Barking amid London riots is discharged from hospital as police make arrest in connection with his attack ![]() Malaysian student Mohammad Haziq told the media he bore no malice towards Britain after being discharged from hospital where he was treated for injuries caused during a mugging in Barking, east London. Photograph: Kirsty Wigglesworth/AP Ashraf Haziq, the Malaysian student mugged and left with a broken jaw in a now notorious attack in Barking, east London on Monday, said he still felt "great" about Britain. The 20-year-old, who is studying accountancy and has only been in the country for a month, said he bore no malice or ill-feeling towards the country despite his ordeal which started when rioters demanded his bicycle. Speaking at a press conference after being discharged from the Royal London hospital, Haziq, from Kuala Lumpur, said he felt sorry for his attackers. "I was really sad for them because amongst them there were children," he said. "There was a boy from a primary school, I think. It was shocking because I expected it to be someone older, but there was this boy." The student was held up at knifepoint and punched. Several people were seen helping him to his feet and looked like they were comforting him but then they rifled through the contents of his backpack and stole items. He underwent a three-hour operation on Wednesday. Minutes after his press conference at the Malaysian high commission in London, police said a 20-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with the attack. Haziq said: "My family are worried about me, and my mother would like me to go home, but I am determined to stay. Britain is great. Before I came here, I was very eager and I haven't got any ill-feeling about what happened. "It is really strange. I am just a normal person. These things happened so suddenly." He had been told money was being raised through a social media campaign and he said he would like his mother to come to visit him. "It is very nice of you to help me. I plan to finish my study here and then, after I finish, I am returning back home. That will be in two years' time." Haziq said he appreciated David Cameron's support for him, expressed in the Commons on Thursday, but said he did not want to comment about the prime minister's description of a "sick society". He said had been helped by two girls and a woman following the incident. Haziq had been on his way to a friend's home when he was attacked. "She told me there was a riot going on in East Ham and she wanted us to be together." The Malaysian high commission has warned its citizens to "exercise maximum alert and vigilance while they are in public places, especially in areas affected by the riots". |

Can you post Asia Bibi on YouTube and get the BBC to highlight her ill-treatment by Islamists? Oh btw, you made another faux pas... "Paki" is a derogatory term, just as "Indon" is. Paki (Paki Paki) (United Kingdom) Used as a derogatory term directed towards South Asians (and sometimes Middle Eastern people), it is usually considered offensive when used by a non-Asian in the UK.[143][144] You obviously have an issue with darker-skinned folks since you are so addicted to using derogatory terms with them even when you are trying to save their necks based on their religious identity rather than their personal rights. The power of YouTube, chutzy. Can you post Asia Bibi on YouTube and get the BBC to highlight her ill-treatment by Islamists? Have you even bothered to sign her petition as you always harping on and admonishing everyone to be fair and tolerant, or it matters little to you as she is Christian? You are a super hypocrite! But then again it comes as no surprise! |
