Confidence is a sense that you think you are accomplished of doing something. It helps a person to feel positive. It is useful to enjoy every single moment in our life. So its just thinking you can, not really proving you can? ~ I have been thinking about this, since this thread.... at first i thought i had no confidence, now i realized i dont need confidence.....I just am, or am not.... Confidence is hard to explain.... because it can consist of so many things.. |

~ I have been thinking about this, since this thread.... at first i thought i had no confidence, now i realized i dont need confidence.....I just am, or am not.... Confidence is hard to explain.... because it can consist of so many things..</div>[/color] Obsession about Confidence versus lack of Confidence: Hehehe. If we think about confidence, then we must think about lack of confidence. So just best to not bother with whether we have confidence or not. I am talking about the duality of this. As soon as we fall into it, we want to possess confidence and inevitably shun lack of confidence. Obsessing over having or not having it-leading us to feel bad if we think we don't have it, and leading us to feel good if we think we have it. So it has become an object of attachment-like attaching to sensations of pleasure inevitably we will suffer when there is pain. Confidence as life experience and skills: I say just do it. Don't anticipate or worry about the results so much as especially regarding situations that do not give a sense of certainty. But then again, a sense of certainty does not mean certainty- it's a comfortable feeling because things seem to head towards that direction. Like you gave an example of studying for an exam, so this will give a good sense that we will pass the exam. Given the exam the teacher will give reflect the materials that we have studied. So in this case, there seems to be some certainty because we are informed about the situation-like teacher has given some guideline about what to study for. Then we study hard for it...so it seems like life experience and skills are what constitute confidence here. Confidence in interacting with women: What about interacting with women? Ha. This is a million dollars question...I think if a woman likes you, she likes you. If she does not, then she does not. The choice is hers, so there is nothing a guy can really do about it. But attraction can be developed over time. Not always the case. So guys will have to be comfortable carrying a conversation with women at first to make some good impression. Obsession over every woman as a potential girlfriend or someone who will end up in his bed is a big hindrance. So obsession about anything is not a good thing. Not just women. That's my opinion. My conclusion/opinion is: don't let any thought of obsession or attachment alight in the mind for we cannot step into the river twice. Change is inevitable and constant. We all possess a body that requires food (earth), water, air, and temperature to function. Without air, the body will die. Without intake of food, the body will die. Without intake of water, the body will die. Without temperature regulation, the body will die. We are very dependent on these conditions for existence. When the body gets old, it will not be able to take in these conditions, we will die. So conditions (not a single entity) are what brings everything together for existence. There is a seed but it will not become a plant if we leave it on the table where there are no conditions of soil, water, earth, sunlight, temperature. So all physical existence is subject to change over time, and cannot remain permanent when conditions are no longer together to support existence. So the implication of all this is we should not hold on to anything, but let the mind be free from all attachments and obsessions. When there are attachments and obsessions, there is greed, anger, and ignorance. These 3 are the cause of all human problems and suffering. confidence is brain chemicals.
high serotonin lowers your inhibitions. you'll be more outgoing and friendly. low serotonin makes you insecure, anxious, and withdrawn. snort a line of coke and you'll automatically become a charming social butterfly. This post has been edited by samnang: Aug 19 2011, 07:02 PM |

imo, confidence is the combination of both experience + assertiveness.
having the benefits of experience and the boldness from an assertive character really do a number on people's impression of you as well as your impression on others |
