japan can no more good for selling products to overseas because of too strong yen.


south korea and taiwan companies made OEM products or parts, or assembled products for japanese companies since 1970s, and now even better than japanese companies. south korea and taiwan becomes next japan in electronics field

many south korea and taiwan people spoke japanese, and training from japan, and easy access to japanese companies, also, japan loaned money to south korea, until 1997, 90% of korea foreign loans from japan.

and transfer the high tech industry and technology to overseas country of lower exchange rate

JAKARTA (IFT) – The government will offer an incentive package for Japan-based manufacturing industries that will relocate their factory to Indonesia. This was decided in the wake of plans to ban raw material exports by 2014. M.S. Hidayat, Minister of Industry, said that the incentive will include a tax allowance and import duties.

Tuesday, 13 September 2011 Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that PT. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), TMC's vehicle production subsidiary in Indonesia, plans to build a second plant adjacent to its existing Karawang Plant to meet demand in the growing Indonesian market.



Karawang Plant No. 2 is scheduled to start production of new vehicle models in early 2013 at an annual pace of 70,000 units. Total cash investment for construction is expected to be 26.3 billion yen and new hires for TMMIN are also planned.

The existing Karawang Plant has an annual production capacity of 110,000 vehicles1 and produces the "Kijang Innova" and the "Fortuner"—core vehicles of the Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) Project2—that are sold in the domestic market and also exported to Thailand, South Africa and other regions. The two plants will give Toyota an annual production capacity of 180,000 vehicles in Indonesia in early 2013.

Separately, to commemorate Toyota's 40th year of business in Indonesia, a ceremony will be held today in Jakarta to be attended by government officials, suppliers, TMC President Akio Toyoda, TMMIN President Masahiro Nonami and PT. Toyota-Astra Motor3 President Johnny Darmawan Danusasmita.

As expressed in the Toyota Global Vision announced in March, TMC plans to further strengthen its activities in emerging markets and to continue producing vehicles that exceed consumer expectations.

I have worked 6 months for Hitachi in Jakarta and the company did very well, taking the market from UT very fast. (talking about the heavy equipment hitachi). But this was before the Tsunami, that took out all the factories in Japan.

Most vehicles are indeed from Japanese manufacturers in Indonesia.

any more move is also more technology factory than before, because assemblements factories are already moved out of japan., and more technology transfer to indonesian engineers, because japanese engineers too old, and expensive. also more indonesian managers and executives as major company to base in indonesia.

for indonesia. like korea in 80s,

i like the idea that japan companies move to indonesia, vietnam, phillippine, malaysia, not other countries, because they share many similar things, like language, music, clothes, house, etc with japan.

Toshiba Plans $39 Million Factory in East Jakarta

Toshiba Home Appliances, a local subsidiary of Toshiba of Japan, is planning to build a 3 billion yen ($39 million) washing machine factory in Jakarta this year, the company said on Tuesday.

The Tokyo-based company, which designs and manufactures home appliances, will start construction on the 18,000-square-meter plant next month, with the project expected to be done by the middle of next year. It will begin production by the end of 2012.

“Capital investment in the plant over the next year is expected to reach some 3 billion yen and the plant will have some 350 employees,” Toshiba said in a statement published on its Web site.

Toshiba officials in Jakarta declined to elaborate.

The company will build the new plant adjacent to the site of its LCD TV production facility in East Jakarta Industrial Park.

Toshiba makes more than 70 percent of its sales in Japan. But the company says it has embarked on a globalization push in its home appliances business, and hopes to have 50 percent of its sales come from outside Japan by 2015.

The group expects sales of washing machines in Southeast Asia to increase by more than two-thirds to 9.2 million units in 2015, from 5.5 million units last year.

Indonesia is Toshiba’s largest and fastest-growing market in Southeast Asia and currently accounts for 30 percent of total demand in the region. That is expected to grow to 50 percent by 2015, it says.

Sales of twin-tub washing machines in Indonesia in 2010 were around 1.8 million units and are estimated to grow by 23 percent this year.

“Twin-tub models now account for more than 60 percent of washing machines sold in Indonesia,” the company said.

The new factory will double Toshiba’s global production capacity of twin-tub washing machines to one million units by 2015, from 500,000 units last year. The washing machines will be distributed to other Southeast Asian countries, Japan and the Middle East, Toshiba said.

The two most popular Toshiba products in Indonesia are LCD TVs and notebook PCs.
