Laos took a 24th minute lead through an Armisay Kettavong penalty before midfielder Phithack Kongmathliath doubled the home side's advantage ten minutes later. Kettavong got his second and Laos' fourth in the 58th minute, six minutes after Southavone Thammada had made it 3-0, before Cambodia's night went from bad to worse when midfielder In Vichhay picked up his second yellow card to receive his marching orders in the 84th minute. Substitute Anilan Nanthavong scored the fifth two minutes into stoppage-time with the goal that sent Laos to the top of the Group F standings on goal difference ahead of Japan.
