Ancient Siamese = Khom. Khom ruler spoke Sanskrit so they name themselves sanskrit Syam. It's Syambhu = son of god.

For Khmer, you tell me Khmer is Indic word we Thais call you? um... that's great. So it's must be from Tai words Kha + Men, then we write it to Indic form so we got Khmer.
