Japanese/Vietnamese Relations, Is there potential for a strong friendship? Options

After reading a few discussions on Vietnamese chat about relationships between various nations in East Asia, I really began to think about just how much potential there is for the Japanese and Vietnamese people to really develop a strong bond with one another.

Firstly, when looking at our history you can see that both the Japanese and the Viets come from strong warrior stock. Now, I am in no way trying to advocate violence or say that warfare is good, but if you look at past events both Japan and Vietnam have a certain knack for being able to hold their own in the face of confrontation, both with the Vietnamese facing off against the Chinese armies and the French/Americans and Japan being the first Asian nation to conquer a European power (Russia). I think that this kind of strong spirit and determination really links our people together and can be translated into how we interact with one another. We are both very proud races of people, and I think our steadfastness and willpower could really become a force to be reckoned with if we were to combine forces, particularly in the face of possible aggression from nations such as the PRC. Our shared efforts could form one of the most powerful defensive alliances in the world if engineered correctly.

Secondly, from a modern perspective I think both Japan and Vietnam have much to offer each other in the economic and industrial fields. A lot of our technological gadgets come from the Japanese, and I believe that if our two nations were to really put our heads together Vietnam could stand to learn a lot from you guys
In exchange, Vietnam could offer our own rapidly emerging economy to the mix, as well as manpower from our relatively large workforce and natural recourses from our own land and territory in the Spratly Islands.

I think our people really have so much to gain from working together, that if a strong Vietnamese-Japanese alliance were formed, we could very well rise to be two of the most prosperous nations in the world.

That's true, what's messed up is in the US.. The Huns are portrayed as white most of the time in Hollywood. Most scholars agree that they were Asian though.

That's what happens when original Asian Turkic people get conquered by Russia. The assimilated "Turkified" people of Hungary/Turkey are able to lay claim to the heritage of Turkic people without opposition. The Huns were the ancestors of Turkic people.

However, the collapse of the Soviet Union means some of these original Asian Turkic people have achieved independence. (i.e: Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan) It would be their job to defend their identity from being stolen by Turanists and Nordicists.

i think both japan and vietnam have much more to gain from china than from each other. and japan is more similar to china than to vietnam. vietnam is more similar to china than to japan.

In my history classes they made it seem like it was unclear of his ethnicity, like they were ashamed that the greatest European empire (except maybe Great Britain) was brought down by Asians. I wonder if all the metal bands who do songs about Attila realize he was Asian?

Anyway, I haven't seen a lot of interaction between Vietnamese and Japanese. I remember hearing a lot about how the Japanese see themselves as different from other Asians but that could be back when Japan was the only developed Asian country.

Well, I used to get along reasonably well with Japanese kids back in high school (and these were real Japanese, not American born.) I think there might still be a bit of prejudice towards other Asians in some areas of the country, but in most of the major cities I think the Japanese population is pretty open minded about developing relationships with the rest of the continent (as long as it's not China). If this mindset is the same for politicians, then hopefully there might be a future for Vietnam and Japan to start working together...

Image of future vietnam is like today's south korea or taiwan, and japan.
japan is good for helping and technology transfer by OEM , outsourcing.
