I got this from my books like "The Encyclopedia of World's Special Forces" foreword by Major Mike Mckinney. The other info. I get is from the internet, family, or during summer camps in korea we learn about the military.

The Delta Force or also known as SFOD-Delta is in the branch of the army, they are one of two of the america's counter-terrorist who can perform in overseas mission (the others are domestic counter-terrorists), and thats what makes them so special. Besides counter-terrorism they do long-range reconaissance and snatch-and-grab missions. They are also masters in close-quarter battle or CQB operations.

They were named Delta Force because Colonel Beckwith was fascinated by the british SAS teams, so he set up his own special forces unit to be trained by the SAS group Delta, and thats how they got their name.

I forgot to add.

Delta Force usually select their candidates from the Airborne Rangers or the Green Beret, sometimes they may get potential candidates from the national guards.

There is also an all female unit in the delta called the "Funny Squad". I'm not sure what they do.

Edit: Here are two websites dedicated to the special forces.

http://www.specialoperations.com/default2.html

http://www.specwarnet.com/

Edit: Another Special Forces worthy of mention is the Gurkhas. I wasn't sure if I wanted to add them or not because they don't really belong to any asian country, they are trained by the british, but they are an all-asian special ops. unit. All their members come from Nepal in S.E. asia.

Which brings up my next question are there any all-korean units in the japanese imperial army during ww2? If so how well did they or didn't they fight? I'm curious to know since there were koreans in the imperial army back then.

to do your special work... if you assault a base head on with military might, casualties will be high... if you use a sneak force with 12 men, very few casualties, and maybe even more men

pluss, you cant do precision work with a huge army, like taking out one man.... too much time for them to escape when armies are clashing... but 2 men with a sniper rifle can take him out without anyone knowing of it

well.. i think it depends on who the dictator is and what country

firstly, the dictator must be skilled... or else he shouldn't be in black ops.... secondly, the dictator should be protected for after the crisis... not in a risky situation

Cevil pretty much sumed it up for most special forces. The spec. ops. are elite specialist teams who perform missions that a regualr conventional army wasn't trained to handle (another words they would get in the way). Keep in mind that not all spec. ops. are like that, here are a few exceptions.

U.S. Rangers- Quick Raids, trained to take down airfields

U.S. Green Beret- "Warrior Diplomats" members are trained to be fluent in another language to organzie and train guerilla fighters on foreign soil.

ROK marines- Shock Troops who lead regular soldiers to battle. Since the korean war they were undefeatable. Unlike u.s. marines they are also trained in commando tactics.

ROK capital division- Protect the capital city from communist attacks and military/civilian coup (Park Chung Hee was more worried about a coup because before he overthrew his own govt. with the military).

yeah.... what about the "non-existent" forces??

Delta Force - counter-terrorist action.... and maybe black ops.... works in conjunction with Seal Team Six as well...

THEY DONT EXIST

You like conspiracies don't you? Don't deny it I read some of your posts.

There was a conspiracy that alien scientists took over the Dulce base and that the govt. sent the Delta Force team to rescue the hostages. The Delta Force got crushed.

Yeah, you seem to accept conspiracies as facts. (IMG:http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/sure.gif)

I thought you'll find this interesting. Its just what I said above, I just skimmed it so I don't know if both of them state the Delta Force or not.
