I left Vietnam in 1994 when I was 10 years old. After 17 years living in Canada, I went back to Vietnam in 2008 and realized Vietnam hasn't change much since I left (1994). Up until today (2011) Vietnam is still struggling through almost every aspect. Education, Health and Safety, Laws, Anti-corruption, Military defense, Technology, Transportation, Public safety and many more. Why hasn't Vietnam change much after almost 17 years? There are so many corruption around and out of control. What can I do to help improve this country without going to the wrong person? I have my ticket reserved for January 2011 to go back there again a second time. It's very disappointing.

I ain't Chinese and never will be. Why are you being defensive about it? Vietnam is currently poor. It needs to be like Japan and Korea or exceed it.

"Why hasn't Vietnam change much after almost 17 years"

There are many reasons and factors that account for the rise of poverty in vietnam. There is no point of being depress about it. I think the source of the problem is the people mind set. Poverty, corruption, oppression, violence can be traced back to a lack of selfless attitude within the society. The Japanese people are cooperative, diligent, wise in the sense that their culture is instil within them the pride that goes beyond self-interest. Hence, their national success is well anticipated.
The mindset of Korean (i.e South) are very similar to the Japanese, and because they have been neighbours since time immemorial, it is not surprising to see such similarities.
Now, if Vietnam is going to prosper, the people in general need to wake up from the sleep of ignorance and recognize the importance of cooperation. As long as the people remain in such state of ignorance, the country will continue to suffer.

You are kidding me? I think everytime i go over there i see changes well maybe not with the government or corruption but education, laws, hospitals and shopping centres has taken a massive turning point. Of course poverty isn't a day light solution, it'll be fixed over time
