As a percentage of the overall population, Thais were the most generous in donating money
US tops world charitable giving index As a percentage of the overall population, Thais were the most generous in donating money Continue reading the main story Related Stories The rich with a social conscience The US has been rated as the world's most charitable country in 2011 by the Charities Aid Foundation's (CAF) World Giving Index, up from fifth in 2010. The Irish Republic came second, then Australia, New Zealand and the UK. The survey suggested more people were likely to perform charitable acts this year compared with 2010, but less likely to give money. The CAF said the "global economic crisis" was the likely reason for the slight fall in charitable donations. The group said the richest countries were not necessarily the most likely to give to charity - only five nations that are in the World Bank's top 20 economies by GDP appear in the latest CAF giving index top 20. In terms of percentage of population, Thailand was the most generous, with 85% of Thais making regular charitable contributions. The UK was the second most generous, with 79% regularly giving to charity. Countries were ranked in terms of the monetary donations and charitable acts of their people. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-16260782 This post has been edited by Nhoona: Dec 20 2011, 08:53 PM |

Believe it or not. From my experience, There are some narrow-mined, stingy, selfish people from some countries who is mean enough to say that being
generous and selfless is the sign of weakness , docile and spudity. can you believe it? What kind of culture that raise them? I think they are just uncomfortable seeing people selflessly help each other which it is something they are not capbable of. Anyway, I respect Thai people and their generosity and I,m sure that it's going to pay off pretty soon(that's the Karma) |

Nothing is fair in the world. and life isnt fair either because in the end we die naturally because that is our purpose.
And beside, not all Thai are generous since I know tons of Thai seem to want and want, then give. I think people only see the small part of Thai from the outside. But if you really know them, then you will know exactly how they are. |

Don't pay too much attention to these guys who love to troll so much without knowing what's going on with Real Lao people.
Real Lao and Thai people have always been generous, in spite of all types of natural disasters and political problems going on in Thailand and lesser prosperity and communism in Laos. """South Eastern Asia has a giving index score of 37% and ranked 4th globally. There are nine countries in the region, with the two highest ranked countries (Thailand and Lao People's Democratic Republic) both sitting inside the top 10 World Giving Index ranking globally, place at 9th and 10th, respectively).""" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/19/w...p;title=10_Laos https://www.cafonline.org/pdf/World_Giving_...2011_191211.pdf This post has been edited by Bounthy: Dec 21 2011, 10:40 AM |

Can't you read BingBing...the article said right there with 85% Thai making charitable contributions... These kind of ranking are just an estimation and calculation on percentage of people and those money coming out from private and individual community donation . It doesn't prove anything that is base on each individual factor of people or country who give or give not. And in the end its just all calculation, but not a precise fact. |

I think Thailand loves to give, especially to Farang. i wonder if tipping a hooker counts as a charitable donation? I can start my own country donate a dollar and my country will have 100% index. lolzzzzzzzzzz per population index doesnt mean or account for anything, Bill Gates Alone contributes more money per Dollar to Charity then the Entire Country of Thailand all put together. The amount of Money itself means more then how many ppl donate, lolzzzzz I can donate $100 and 100 ppl can donate 1 cent, so which is more important? my single $100 bill or 100 ppls $1 dollar? lolzzzzzzzzzz |

You guys totally lack an understanding of the true meaning of Giving.
It's the inside of each soul, rich or poor. It's Nam Jai. Overall, it reflects a people. It's like a part of Kuam Pen Lao. Absolutely not surprising!!! you will never understand it. |
